Today, as we conclude the celebrations of our 25th anniversary on this festive day, we all want to say with one voice: THANK YOU, Miguel Casal! None of this would have been possible without your leadership! Miguel Casal, CEO and Chairman of COSTA NOVA Industria, represents the drive to bring Portuguese ceramic tradition to the world. Everyone in the company knows him. He is more present than any of us, familiar with every file and mastering every issue. This is not an exaggeration – his work ethic is exemplary, and his intelligence is boundlessly admired. He leads with expertise. Above all, Miguel is a remarkable entrepreneur and visionary. The company, which began modestly yet ambitiously at the start of the century, is now a global reference. It operates four manufacturing units in the Industrial Areas of Vagos and Ílhavo. Projects like the COSTA NOVA brand, present in over 60 countries, and ecogres show his capacity for innovation and success. "Our story has always been based on a very simple vision: innovation," he says. He is often seen cycling through the factory floor, always ensuring the quality of the final product and the well-being of his team. We know he will continue to inspire and lead, bringing ambition for success to the table every day. "Many times, we were in the right place, at the right time, with the right people. Circumstances often dictate success or failure – sometimes by a small margin. We had a mix of luck and vision," he adds. We respectfully contest this, Eng. Casal, because luck requires a lot of hard work, and nothing that happened in these 25 years was by chance. It was (and above all) a result of your personal effort!

We are celebrating our 1st year 🎗 Here is what I wish I knew before starting Credit: at the beginning stage, your company will not have any credit. Therefore, it can be extremely hard to move freight, unless you already have a big driver base that trusts you. In many cases, you can offer the drivers payment before the delivery, and they will still refuse to book, because of lack of trust. Niche down: choose a small niche, and start doing research. Learn the common issues that shippers face in this specific niche. Come up with solutions to those issues. Focus on these solutions, when doing cold calls or sales in general. Overhead: As you start growing, you will get many calls and emails from companies offering services (tracking services, TMS, marketing, customer leads, business optimizations, credit improvements, etc.). Most of these services will have a binding contract, meaning you will not be able to cancel these services unless the contract ends (some can last up to 3 years). Think twice, before accepting any of these services, because most of your customers can switch to a competitor in any day. This can result in a situation of low cash flow and high overhead, potentially leading to bankruptcy.

This week marks my 4th anniversary at Daikin Central Europe and it’s a moment for reflection on the journey so far. 4 years, 4 insights + 1 special tip is what I managed to wrap up on this occasion: ✔ Never be afraid of changes, because changes are the most certain thing. Once you embrace the idea that everything is in motion – your career, your work environment, your topics, this helps you get a peace of mind. Just keep steering forward. ✔ Believe in your strengths, even when you feel that you’re not making 100% use of them – they are your assets and there will be a moment (perhaps it’s just around the corner), when you will be shining, juggling with all of your strengths and skills and doing the magic you’re supposed to do. ✔ Be grateful for the opportunity to work in a company with high professional standards, ethics and corporate culture. That’s a booster of motivation. Daikin is a great place to work and I am happy to be part of this team! ✔ It’s all about people. Connect with people who will make your everyday at work more positive, productive, inspired. I’m grateful to have met wonderful colleagues at work, who are not just helping me do my job, but feel like I’m part of something bigger. Next week will be my one year anniversary with Savino Del Bene! As I reflect on my journey here, I can't help but feel grateful for the incredible growth, lessons and people this experience has brought into my life. Taking a risk and stepping outside of my comfort zone was scary. Leaving comfort of a giant forwarder and a network I have build over 7 years was daunting...but worth it. Change is uncomfortable, but it is inevitable no matter if you stay or go. What I've come to realize is that the grass is not greener on the other side, and that is ok! Sometimes the grass is the color of an espresso and it's beautiful. 😂 And unless you mow it, water it, and tend to it with dedication and hard work it will not grow no matter what color it is. Listening to my gut instinct proved to be more valuable than any naysayers' opinions about my decision. It's a reminder that our inner compass often knows the path we should follow. Working in a smaller company has been a transformative experience. Wearing multiple hats simultaneously can be uncomfortable, but it's in those moments of discomfort that we truly stretch and grow. I am fortunate to have had Karen Rondino as a role model in this industry for this past year. Her leadership and example as a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field have been an invaluable gift. She a force to be reckoned with! Ultimately, I've learned that finding happiness and living by our values is our responsibility, not anyone else's.
