Growing Excellence, one pair of glasses at a time. We want to say thank you to the community partners who helped bring the Vision To Learn initiative to students at DCSD! Recently, we celebrated 110 students from Fillmore Elementary who have received the gift of clearer vision.
“It was the best day of my life,” is how Fillmore Elementary student Shawn Mukabane described the moment he received his new pairs of glasses.
Thank you United Way Quad Cities for providing a vision for success to local elementary school students through the Vision To Learn program.
Since the August 2023 launch of the program in Davenport, it has provided over 1,900 vision screenings and two pairs of glasses each to 515 local students at no cost to students or their families.

2023 was a banner year for Babson College and entrepreneurship education. Babson was named the 10th best college in the United States by The Wall Street Journal and retained our place atop U.S. News & World Report’s entrepreneurship rankings for the 27th and 30th consecutive time at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We also eclipsed the $500 million mark of our ambitious campaign and now elevated our goal once again to a total of $750 million.
These rankings and the generosity of our donors, alumni, and friends signal that the world is recognizing and validating the power of entrepreneurial leadership. As our world faces numerous challenges and continuing social divide, #EntrepreneurialLeaders can play a distinct role in bridging gaps and impacting communities around the world.
Entrepreneurial leaders think beyond what it takes to start a business. Being an entrepreneurial leader is about building relationships and remaining open to new ideas and ways of thinking. While that thought process is crucial in the business world, it has endless promise to impact how we lead and treat one another, too. Entrepreneurial leadership—promoting innovative thinking and seeing no challenge as too big to overcome—has untold potential to bring people together, no matter our differences.
It's my hope that in 2024, more people will understand and embrace #EntrepreneurialLeadership and recognize that anyone can be an entrepreneur. Doing so will allow communities around the world to see the challenges facing society as opportunities to unite for a better tomorrow. Whether that manifests in new ways of approaching sustainability or championing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, or it leads to new and innovative technologies and applications of artificial intelligence that solve big and small problems, the world will benefit from an influx in entrepreneurial leaders.
“My Mummy works in a school, but she's not a teacher” – my daughter, aged 7.
This got me thinking, how do I explain to my 7-and 4-year-old what I do? Answer Attempt #1: Mummy is a Storyteller.
Pretty accurate, right? One aspect of my role is having the responsibility of capturing and sharing the essence of my schools through narratives, experiences, and moments. Together with my team, we weave stories of our students, staff, and the school itself, highlighting achievements, challenges, and aspirations. And through storytelling, we bring life to the values, culture, and identity of our school, helping others to understand and connect with what makes us special. It's about painting a vivid picture of who we are and the impact we have, one story at a time.
That’s why I am incredibly proud to share the launch our Create Your Story campaign, where authenticity became the guiding principle of our brief.
Too often, we see marketing efforts focus solely on showcasing facilities, products or numbers neglecting the authentic stories that breathe life into statistics.
Our mission was clear: show, don't tell. Go take a look, let me know what you think. https://lnkd.in/ecYQUgNk#CreateYourStory#BrandStory#CreativeCampaigns#StrategicStorytelling
As Hampshire's leading academic 3-18 independent day school, we believe in more than just informing families about what our schools offer. We want to show you who we are.
We are proud to share with you our Create Your Story campaign, a collection of 70 genuine and authentic narratives that reveal the true character of our schools. Uncover the diverse passions and love of learning through stories told by those at the heart of our community: the children at Stroud, pupils at KES, and our remarkable staff.
Both King Edward's and Stroud are committed to fostering an environment where every child's journey can flourish, providing opportunities to create their own unique story.

To do well in school and pave the way for a successful life, students need to have the resources necessary resources and support. 🎓
However, this reality can remain out of reach for numerous students, especially those in underserved communities.

In just 2 hours, I crafted a video entirely on my iPhone—from scripting to filming and editing. Here's how:
•Crystal Clear Vision: I started with a precise idea of the message and atmosphere I wanted to convey, laying a solid foundation for the project.
•Efficient Coaching: Quickly and effectively guiding those on camera ensured smooth filming and captured the essence of the message. Their willingness to participate was crucial.
•Strategic Equipment Use: Leveraging affordable gear like $15 wireless lapels from Amazon and using cinematic mode on my iPhone, I achieved high-quality results without breaking the bank.
•Intelligent Editing Decision: Editing in Canva seamlessly integrated branding elements, typography, and color schemes, resulting in a cohesive and professional video.
•Action-Oriented Approach: By diving in without overthinking, I embraced creativity and spontaneity, leading to a fast and effective production. While not professional-grade, the video served its purpose effectively.
Though lacking the polish of a professional studio, the video's effectiveness and quick turnaround highlight the importance of resourcefulness and maintaining standards in communication. Even with limited tools, it's possible to convey messages effectively and impactfully.
A special welcome to new students and families! We're thrilled to have you join us for the 2024-2025 school year. We can't wait to meet you all and embark on this exciting journey together! See you soon!

Build Bond-fires, A Poem Dedicated to the 2023 Class of Erikson Alumni
by Helene Block Fields
Light up our world. Light up the darkness of loneliness, separatism, ageism, and egocentrism in our society. Help reconnect the generations through GrandFriendships. Build bond-fires that will remain glowing embers in children’s memories throughout their lives.
Build bond-fires of mutual kindness, empathy, character, and love. Bring the young and old together in schools, communities, and families. Listen to their words, their voices. They are sending smoke signals that say, “We need each other”.
Let the weakest voices in our society point us back to real strength.
Erikson Institute remembers Helene Block Fields (3/28/1932–1/24/2024), member of Erikson’s first graduating class and an esteemed early childhood educator.
