When I first set up Black Lab, I had a conversation with Catherine S.; she sagely informed me that clients could often take six months or more to onboard from the first conversation. This advice has always stuck with me, and Catherine is regularly proved right in my experience. Whilst the impatient part of me wishes this was quicker, the fact of the matter is that it can take quite some time. However, it makes sense, for many of our clients, running a PPC or SEO campaign is a large capital outlay and a vital part of business. No matter the size of the company, selecting the right partner is an important process. Considered planning and a robust strategy takes time, as does building a relationship. We carefully pull together our strategies, often in partnership with the client; those clients that are more involved tend to accelerate their success. So throw in holidays, budgets reseting, a bit of back and forth and you're easily consuming a few months. So six or so years later on, Catherine, you can stand there saying I told you so.

Even if it’s totally staged, is fake laughter better than no laughter 🤔 Can you tell here I’ve adopted my #fakelaughter for a ‘candid’ shot at a recent event? But, I’m not really bringing up fake laughter (or am I), I needed to bring up the lack of faces and names across soooooo many websites and socials for chambers of commerce, associations, membership bodies, industry groups, community associations etc etc… It’s been somewhat quite surprising. Most recently a brand new group here in Brisbane prompting ‘people first’, ‘community focused’, ‘genuine connections only’, has a total of 0 employees on their LinkedIn page, 0 actual names on the website, generic info@ email address to contact, and even doing some Google sluething returned 0 vague connections for people to it. And no, it isn’t a scam… that I know of. So, is it better to stage some actual people to be the ‘face’ of it, or just disregard altogether? Networks, connections, relationships, around these associations/chambers/groups - people are the core of them and deliver the most value without a doubt. Yet resisting showing those who run the show… feels like an idiot move to me… Real or fake laughter is the way for me 👤 #chamberofcommerce #associations #industrygroups

I had a great week with LinkedIn last week! I gained some fab new connections, read some really thought-provoking posts, and took away inspiration for both my personal and private life (thanks!) For example, Hannah Cockroft OBE, PLY, DL shared a belated New Year's Resolution post that included carrying on her success of not buying ANY new cosmetics or beauty products during 2023 into 2024. This I HAVE to do. I suffer from FOMO and have far too many products that I've bought during the sales in the last 12 months. So let's see how much money I save this year by not buying anything else for as long as possible! Then Hearing from Sinead O'Connor about her direct media relations successes for her clients - a point worth noting, that no matter how senior you get, you should keep your hand in with the detailed stuff so that you retain your consultant edge because you actually KNOW what's what right now. And finally, Emmie Faust's post about the recent Female Founders Rise conference which focused on being a giver rather than a taker - that being in the thick of it, actively helping others, benefits everyone ten-fold. These ads kick off a 16-week, $25 million advertising campaign that will reach key voters in battleground states. The buy includes both the largest and earliest media buy for a reelection campaign into constituency media ever, as well as the largest overall buy for a reelection campaign at this point in time ever, ensuring that President Biden’s message is heard throughout this year’s Republican primary.
