📢 Case Report Highlight: A Potentially Lifesaving Error in Emergency Medicine I'm excited to share our recent publication in the International Journal of Emergency Medicine titled, "A potentially lifesaving error: unintentional high-dose adrenaline administration in anaphylaxis-induced cardiac arrest. 🩺 Summary: During an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest caused by chemotherapy-induced anaphylaxis, a critical communication error led to the administration of a 10-fold dose of epinephrine. Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) still has an overall survival rate of 10% (Benjamin et al. 2019). As the primary intervention in a cardiac arrest, bystanders must initiate CPR as instructed by the clinician on call. However, only 1%-44% people on site who initiate CPR (A'an Dwi Sentana, 2017). Public understanding of on-site CPR has resulted in a considerable reduction in early injury following an incident. As healthcare workers, we must figure out how to raise public awareness about bystander CPR in order to reduce OHCA mortality. In November 2022, my colleagues, Salsabila Rahmadani, Marita Wahyuni and I attended the National Scientific Writing Competition—Andalas Scientific Fair, which was hosted by the Activist in Science Nursing Association at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Andalas. We aimed to solve the OHCA problem and increase the quality of pre-hospital care by creating LIGAT (Life Goes in a Time) is a pre-hospital care paradigm delivered through smartphone apps. We studied and wrote about "LIGAT (LIFE GOES IN A TIME): APLIKASI INSTRUKSI BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) OLEH DISPATCHER KEPADA BYSTANDER DALAM PENANGANAN HENTI JANTUNG". We believe that developing advanced technology for basic life support can improve the quality of pre-hospital care, particularly for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients who require immediate CPR intervention by a bystander.
