🔴📄 The CyberUp Campaign welcomes the fact that The Labour Party manifesto recognises the growing cyber threat to the UK and that Labour have outlined a plan to conduct a Strategic Defence Review in their first year in government, if elected. 🛡 We appreciate the historic efforts the Labour Party frontbench have made towards this issue in recent months and we look forward to their continued support for reforming the outdated Computer Misuse Act 1990 through the adoption of our proposed 'Statutory Defence' – an easy legislative win for any new government. 🏥 Given the crippling real-world impact of recent cyberattacks on our public services and businesses, it is absolutely essential that all UK policymakers recognise the importance of improving our nation’s #CyberResilience. 💻 We appeal to the next government to implement vital reforms on cybersecurity, including #CMAReform, to better protect the country from these growing threats. #manifesto #ComputerMisuseAct #StatutoryDefence

🏥 Given the real-world impact of recent high-profile cyberattacks on UK businesses and public institutions, it is surprising to see such little discourse in the political space around improving UK cybersecurity and preventing cybercrime.   🔢 Politicians should not treat computer-related offences – which are on the rise – as separate from overall crime statistics, especially given these acts are increasingly affecting us closer to home through fraud and cyberattacks. Protecting the public against these threats must be seen as their responsibility. A crucial element of improving our nation's cyber resilience is updating our cyber laws to be fit for the 21st century. ❌ Currently, the outdated Computer Misuse Act 1990 is hampering efforts by cybersecurity professionals to protect our businesses and public services, because it leaves them open to prosecution for their cybersecurity research. 🛡 This is why we are urging the next government to adopt a ‘statutory defence’ as part of reform to the CMA, ensuring that those working in cybersecurity are not operating with one hand tied behind their backs in their attempts to keep us safe from cyber crime. #cyberattack #CyberSecurity #ComputerMisuseAct #CMAReform

It's very concerning to read that 64% of UK Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) who were surveyed by Absolute Security think that the UK has a poor cyber resilience strategy, as has been reported in Verdict. 🖥 Any effort to enhance the UK's cyber resilience must prioritise bringing our cybersecurity laws into 21st century. The next government should focus on this to keep Britain safe in today’s digital world. 🛡 We are urging the next government to introduce a 'statutory defence' as part of reform to the outdated Computer Misuse Act 1990. This would allow cyber security professionals to operate without one hand tied behind their backs and boost our nation’s cyber security industry. 📈 Updating the Act would also unlock the growth potential of the already successful British tech industry.
