H-Connecticut returns! A note from CT State Historian and CTH Board Member Andy Horowitz: "One of the things I’ve heard most during this, my first year as Connecticut State Historian, is that we — all of us who are concerned, one way or another, with the state’s history — could use a place to ask questions, share ideas, look for help, offer resources, and generally stay connected. I’ve heard that H-Connecticut once offered such a place. I hope, beginning today, it might again. H-Connecticut will only be as useful as we all make it, together, so I hope you will jump right in. Connecticut is, to borrow the words of the former state poet laureate Marilyn Nelson, 'a parcel of land, a vast legacy.' We have a lot to talk about it. I look forward to the conversations." I'm doing some research on the Northern Quarter, how it works or doesn't work for you. There's a survey you can fill in which will inform a study about its modern history. Anyone who knows the area well is invited to contribute and share especially those who feel under represented. https://lnkd.in/e-BMyHG4

UPCOMING SERI WEBINAR!! Lessons Learned: Real World Experiences in Applying the Capstone Approach August 8, 2023 | 2-3 pm Eastern The National Archives developed the Capstone approach as an alternative to traditional records management practices when dealing with email and as a way for archivists to handle the overwhelming amount of email that needs to be managed. As more and more people work to implement the Capstone model, there are many questions that come up about how to best put it into practice. In this webinar, three presenters will talk about their implementation of a Capstone approach, including their successes and their challenges. They will also talk about their experience in providing guidance on the Capstone approach to other government agencies. Join us if you’ve ever wondered how Capstone works in practice or if you have questions about how the Capstone approach looks in an actual Archival setting. Presenters: Brian Brown (City of Portland Archives and Records Center), Elizabeth Perkes (Utah State Archives), and Maria McCashion (New York State Archives) REGISTER NOW: https://lnkd.in/e_a-43aZ The SERI program appreciates the generous support of Preservica! #webinar #recordsmanagement #archives #government

Register to attend a free online presentation from the State Archives of North Carolina "Assembling History: Research in the General Assembly Session Records" on Thursday 23 May 2024 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Learn tips from Digital Archivist Lauren McCoy on how to search and find documents in the General Assembly Session Records from the Colonial era through the present; this webinar will cover what you can expect from these records and how best to navigate them using freely-available resources in the North Carolina Digital Collections. The General Assembly Session Records are among the richest collections at the State Archives of North Carolina. Spanning more than three hundred years, these records contain fascinating stories from county formation to manumission to divorce and adoption. While full of important history, the changing nature of the General Assembly and age of these records can make them difficult to research. #FamilyHistory #NorthCarolina #Genealogy #Research #Webinar #Free #GovernmentRecords #HistoricalRecords #HistoricalResearch https://lnkd.in/gjhQA9jf
