UL Provost Shane Kilcommins, flanked by Eddie Keane and Raymond Friel, this morning signed an agreement with Université de Franche-Comté which finalizes the development of an exciting new programme "Bachelor of Laws in Common and Civil Law" where students will complete 2 years in UL and 2 years in #besançon. This programme will give students academic background to pursue legal careers in either Ireland or France. #internationaleducation #schooloflaw #doubledegree

Next week I'm heading to Melbourne to visit Monash University to present on the topic "Australian Law Academics and Research Impact: Strategies and Experiences". Law, as a practice-oriented discipline, presents unique challenges and opportunities in research engagement and impact for academics. In her thesis, titled "Navigating Research Engagement and Impact: A Grounded Theory Exploration of Australian Law Academics' Strategies and Experiences," Ilana Bolingford delves into the world of law academics to uncover their distinct approach to research engagement and impact. The experiences of academics are shaped by academic culture and identity, alongside factors like expectations, motivation, and control, which influence their strategies for research impact. These academics employ various processes, including collaboration for change, knowledge translation across diverse mediums, fostering relationships with stakeholders and the media, and building and maintaining professional profiles to affirm their expertise. In this presentation, Ilana explores the factors influencing law academics' experiences and their perspectives on defining and achieving research impact. She will also delve into the broader concept of research impact, differentiating between "what" it is and "how" it is achieved. "Delhi University Temporarily Halts Applications for Law Courses Amid CLAT 2023 Admission Challenge" #DelhiUniversity (DU) assures #DelhiHighCourt it will halt applications for new five-year integrated law courses while legal challenge to using Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2023 scores is pending. Advocate Mohinder S Rupal, representing DU, gives assurance following Bench criticism of prioritizing #CLAT over Common University Entrance Test (#CUET) scores for law course admission. Division Bench with Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Narula remarks that no one is above the law, questions DU's departure from national policy adhered to by 18 other central universities using CUET scores. Rupal informs Court that special committee recommended adopting CLAT scores; report presented to DU's Academic Council and Executive Council. Rupal requests one week to submit DU's response; Bench schedules further consideration for August 25th, warns of addressing interim relief if response delayed. Central government counsel granted permission to respond; Court hears Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging DU's decision to use CLAT 2023 scores for five-year integrated law course admission. Prince Singh, DU Faculty of Law student, advocates for CUET scores; argues University Grants Commission (UGC) directive mandates CUET for all central universities' undergraduate admissions. While most courses adhere to CUET, DU's five-year law courses use CLAT scores, leading to plea claiming limited student access to Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.
