What a day in DC last week: The first ever National Child Care Innovation Summit hosted by Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. Core to our investment thesis at Springbank is that massive social and demographic changes are making areas of the economy formerly viewed as "Women's Issues," very obviously "Everyone Issues." That was plain to see in the full day attendee list which included the C-suite of UPS, Etsy, Micron Technology, Intel Corporation, Suffolk Construction, as well as the Governors of Indiana, Colorado, and Massachusetts ALL calling childcare a critical economic and labor force issue (specifically not a women's issue). Also underlining the criticality of childcare to economic prosperity: Secretary Raimondo announced that the Census will now explicitly ask questions about child care in the next round! Elana Berkowitz and I were thrilled to be a part of the Summit and to see so many allies in this work -- both old and new.
