There is nobody who has all the education, all the money, and everything, but there are ways to create yourself to that one." - Sami Yalavac Some time ago I had the privilege of speaking with Sami, the former Managing Director and CIO at Bupa. 🚀 The Art of Letting Go: From Hands-On to Hands-Off! 🤲🔀 Indulging in the thrill of doing things solo is fantastic, but in the grand symphony of a career, there comes a pivotal moment – the art of letting go. 🎨✨ Opting for the path of leadership or management means bidding farewell to the hands-on thrills. Your team becomes the virtuosos, and your role shifts to an orchestrator, a communicator, and an empowering force. 🤝🎻 In this intricate dance, you'll find that sometimes, it's not you leading the charge, but your team. Your role? Clearing the path, paving the way for their brilliance to shine. 🌟 Sure, it's challenging. But let me tell you, the rewards outweigh the difficulties. Steering the ship is far more satisfying than drowning in the details. 🚢💼 Embrace the transformation, because in the end, it's the most fun you'll ever have in your career! 🎉 #LeadershipJourney #LettingGoAndThriving https://lnkd.in/g9TPCNpf

Today's words of inspiration are brought to you by Brian Kight. We value and look up to his perspectives on leadership. Here's some great food for thought: "5 Incredible Opportunities You Have Today For what?! 1) Your opportunity to decide enough is enough. 2) Your opportunity to start a special journey or restart one you’ve drifted away from. 3) Your opportunity to make the big decision you’re afraid to make but need to make. 4) Your opportunity to act no matter how much fear or doubt you feel. 5) Your opportunity to make your opportunity. Today is your opportunity. But it’s only an opportunity. It's up to you to grab it or make it."

As an on-demand academic coach, I help PhD students navigate the peaks and valleys of doctoral education.
As a society, we often equate vulnerability with weakness. However, when it comes to leadership and character, vulnerability can be a strength that should not be overlooked. Take it from someone who has been in sales and business development: honesty, integrity, and vulnerability are consistently rewarded by customers. In fact, being too aggressive and macho can actually cost you sales. Closing a deal isn't about pressuring a client, it's about counseling and consultation. It's about providing all the information and data necessary for the client to make their own decision. So, don't be afraid to show vulnerability in your leadership style. It could be the key to building stronger relationships and achieving greater success. And for those of us who miss our past sales and business development careers, let's remember the power of vulnerability in our current roles.
