In his words, "all cars use the same wireless technology and are essentially computers on wheels". Thieves have figures out how to "hack" these computers. Did you know you can put your car keys in an "RF Faraday bag" when you get home? I use these to transport mobile devices and secure them against outside interference. **Scam Alert – Card Shimming** Card shimming is a technique used by identity thieves to steal debit and credit card data. It's done by placing a small device on a payment terminal that scans your card's microchip and stores card information.  Data from the device can then be downloaded and used to commit fraud. Shimming devices are most commonly found on gas pumps and ATMs.   To learn more, here’s an informative article from Experian: https://lnkd.in/g9tZ4fEv

Major data breach at auto dealerships across the country! - details are murky about how much of your personal data has been leaked. What was hacked? CDK The program is used to -structure your deal -communicate with the bank -ultimately to sign your contract CDK has all of the information you put on your credit application. This is a randsomware attack Per Techrader “Threat actors lock their victims [CDK] out of their endpoints, steal sensitive data, and then demand money in exchange for the decryption key and keeping the data private.” What to do now? Options: Call your dealer and put some pressure on them to admit your data has been breached. And, unless you have to, hang tight on buying a car. If you need a car now, shoot me a DM. You can still buy a car, it’ll just be a paper contract. I’m not in the industry anymore but I can let you know the sneaky things the dealership might do on a paper contract and where to look for them.
