The electrification rate in urban areas across Africa is experiencing notable growth, indicating positive progress. However, it is crucial to address the existing inequality between rural and urban regions. Bridging this gap is crucial as it directly contributes to comprehensive growth and improved quality of life for all. Enhanced access to education, healthcare, job opportunities, and economic prosperity, facilitated by reliable energy sources, acts as a catalyst for transformative change. These were some of the several critical issues presented by our subsidiary for energy, Ossi Yeto, last week at Renpower Senegal and yesterday at Renpower Angola. One of the key subjects highlighted was the opportunity to expand electricity connectivity, particularly in underserved urban areas of Africa, by primarily relying on renewable energy sources. This approach presents a significant chance to overcome the disparities in energy access that persist in the region. Governments are increasingly embracing sustainable progress, and Ossi Yeto is proud to be at the forefront of harnessing the power of sustainable and safe energy solutions to drive positive socioeconomic change in Africa. #Mitrelli #LetstalkAfrica #Sustainableenergy

In navigating a complex landscape involving access and equity, investment, sovereignty, institutional capacities, social development, and workforce building, #Africa is also confronting the prevailing divergence between centralized and distributed energy generation. The pursuit of export-driven revenues often takes precedence over the need for universal access, leaving significant segments of the population without modern energy supplies. The rise of new technologies and initiatives to enhance regional energy trade and ensure supply security shapes both institutional priorities and investment landscapes. The World Energy Council released the report: ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ 2024: ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐. #TodayInHistory On June 24, 2021, Togo achieved a significant milestone in #renewableenergy with the inauguration of West Africa's largest solar power array, the HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Solar Power Plant. This 70-megawatt facility provides clean electricity to more than 222,000 homes, marking a substantial step in Togo's efforts to expand access to clean and affordable energy. The project, developed by AMEA Power, underscores the potential of renewable energy for sustainable development in the region. It not only enhances Togo's energy independence but also contributes to reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability. The integration of a Battery Energy Storage System ensures continuous power supply, even during nighttime hours, further supporting local communities. AMEA Power's initiative aligns with Togo's National Development Plan, aiming to achieve universal electricity access by 2030. Beyond energy production, the project includes community development efforts such as school construction, healthcare facilities, and educational programs, fostering socio-economic growth across #Togo. ๐ผ๏ธ: Tomi Abe #Susinsight #AdvancingSustainability #HarnessingKnowledgeForImpact #AdvancingSustainabilityInAfrica

"The world is heading towards localised battery storage. The grid of the future will be more distributed and small scale. Our goal is to build the grid of the future in Africa," CrossBoundary Access Managing Director Gabriel Davies shared with The Africa Report. Mini-grids have the potential to close the gap on more than 600 million people who still lack access to electricity. In the past few months, CrossBoundary Access: โ raised $10M from the Africa Development Bankโs Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) โ announced a $10M partnership with Mobile Power to scale battery swapping services across Nigeria โ reached a landmark agreement to extend energy connections to 15 rural communities in Nigeria in collaboration with ENGIE Energy Access and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) โ open-sourced a financial model and project term sheets used to finance over $80M of mini-grids in Africa, to encourage and unlock more funding into the sector Read the article [paywall] for more on our next steps: https://lnkd.in/gNWFM2BT #energyaccess #minigrids #opensource

#Excitingnews from #Lusaka #Zambia ๐ฃ The Demand Stimulation Incentive will support rural development by powering productive uses of energy in communities currently lacking access to reliable electricity. Designed as a grant-based subsidy, the incentive steers mini-grid developers to rapidly connect small businesses and public institutions, spurring income generation and economic activity in these communities. In its first phase, the incentive will target mini-grids deployments across 100 priority sites, which will positively impact the livelihoods of 30,000 rural Zambians and the welfare of over 100,000 Zambians by electrifying schools, hospitals, and other community institutions. Increasing access to reliable, affordable, and modern energy remains a key priority for the Government of Zambia and a critical enabler to bolster economic development in the country. #LetsChangeEnergy #PoweringZambia #MiniGrids #PoweringAfrica #ElectrifyingAfrica

Great report and good insight on SHS.
Today, approximately 600 million people across Africa lack electricity access, making up 80% of the global population without it. In the journey towards electrification, leading nations like Cรดte dโIvoire, Kenya, Ghana, and Senegal are nearing their targets under the "Stated Policies Scenario" (STEPS) which examines current policies and market conditions. However, in many other regions, the challenge persists, and we must continue striving to expand access. Despite hurdles like utility debts and supply chain limitations affecting grid electricity access, there's a big opportunity to cause change using Solar home systems. In 2022, they achieved record sales and contributed to a significant increase in electricity access in sub-Saharan Africa. These systems now empower more than 8% of households in the region, and they are poised to play an even more substantial role in providing initial access to households across Africa in the coming decade. The path to energy inclusion is illuminated by these positive steps, and together, we can light up even more lives. #ElectricityAccess #EnergyInclusion #SustainableDevelopment #RenewableEnergy #AfricaElectrified ๐ International Energy Agency (IEA) - https://lnkd.in/dWcJM5ya
