There's a point in your career where business travel can start. 🛫 For me it was traversing South-East Asia. I'd relocated to Singapore to get out of Sydney and take things to the next level. I got what I bargained for and then some. I moved from the agency I was at and joined Google's creative team to support the region and help grow YouTube. It was at the right time in my life and a lot of fun. I got to showcase video's capabilities, launch advertising with a popular platform in countries it wasn't launched in yet, and do back-to-back presentations with my wise friend Anand Tilak. There's another point that some people get to where the novelty wanes. Life happens at home. The repetitious rigamarole grows tiring. You're sick of losing your presentation adaptor to another meeting room. I never got to "I must optimize my points"-level but I'm sure if I kept pushing in that direction I could have. Then all travel became impossible and the world changed. I'm based near Melbourne and like it that way, but have been on a quick trip for a new client and am at that excited stage about travel again. The vibing in the room, asking challenging questions, and seeking better answers so you can get to an even better outcome. For travel I believe less is more, and less is far better than none at all. #travel #reflection

We wrapped up an incredible trivago Tech Get Together! 🚀 For two days, tech talents across the organization came together for continuous learning, knowledge-sharing, and networking. With so many tech teams at trivago, it can be challenging to keep up with what's happening in other parts of the organization. That's why events like this are so important. It bridges the knowledge gap between different product and tech teams, giving us all the opportunity to learn from each other. One highlight of the event was meeting Don Norman during our 'Meet Your Idol' series. His wisdom and enlightening talk inspired us all around the philosophy of design and we hope to reflect on some of the important design factors he talked about together in our company. I had the chance to present my talk "Life of SRE as a Salesman." I shared how I work together with the Platform, Developer Experience, and Observability squads (a.k.a buying process, methodology, tools offering, etc.) and share those knowledge and good practices (a.k.a selling) with Product Tech teams, enabling them to become self-sufficient. And that's how the analogy 'Salesman' comes in. Stay tuned for my upcoming blog post about it where I'll try to share more about my journey of becoming an influencer for Tech Teams. Overall, we had fun times learning from amazing talents and their presentations, nice chats, great food, good vibes, and of course the LAN party! Last night, the networking event was fun. Looking at the calendar this morning, it sunk in. Twelve years ago, saying goodbye to the job I loved was hard. Reflecting on those seven years, it was everything I wanted to do. Granted, how it ended was not perfect, but it took several years to let go of the experience. Some people needed forgiveness, and I had to forgive myself for getting too comfortable.  The professional journey after that was hard, but it became the bridge to where life is now. It showed the gaps and that investing in myself would pay dividends later.  My cousin would talk to me when I was struggling, and he would say, "Don't chase it. Go create it." He is correct because the more I chased the job, the further it was.  Three years ago, it was an easy decision to bet on myself. Ask me today if I miss the travel business; the answer is yes. Along the journey, working with a few other travel companies, they appreciated the value they received. Considering the number of other companies and industries that have engaged with me, each experience is an opportunity to learn, grow, and create long-term relationships. Where is Zen Digital now? Recently, I was gifted with the opportunity to present in Tech Get Together, trivago's largest annual tech event and while the experience was quite challenging, it was also incredibly rewarding. Challenging because public speaking has always been a mix of fear (almost terror) and excitement for me, but doing it in another language has added an extra layer of complexity. From the first moment, the fear was real. What if I mispronounce a word? What if I can't find the right phrase or even forget everything? Keeping the right mindset was not easy, but some strategies helped me a lot and hopefully can also help some others. And here they are: 1. Understand Your Material: Knowing your topic inside and out gives you the confidence to speak without relying heavily on notes. 2. Practice, Practice, Practice: Rehearse in front of a mirror, record yourself, or present to a friend. The more you practice, the more comfortable you'll become. 3. Seek Feedback: Constructive feedback is invaluable. Use it to improve and refine your speaking skills. 4.(Last but definitely not least) Embrace Nervousness: Accept that nerves are a normal part of public speaking. ✨My Tour Experience Inside GOOGLE✨ Recently, I had the opportunity to check out Google's headquarters in the heart of Silicon Valley. The following are examples of some daily, behind-the-scenes experiences that left an impression on me. 🏢Workplaces that Inspire: Trying to put into words how unique and unusual Google's offices are would be an exercise in futility. Their purpose is to inspire originality and teamwork. 🍔🍫Wonderful Friends and Delicious Food: Lunch at Google was a Highlight of the Day. The restaurant's food was excellent, but the staff's warmth impressed out most. Seeing individuals of different backgrounds sharing a lunch together warmed my heart. 🌳🌲Grean Spaces: Google's apparent concern for the environment is shown in its many green areas. They have many environmentally friendly policies and green areas on campus. It serves as a reminder of the significance of maintaining a healthy planet. 🔎🔬Innovations cropping up in unexpected places: From the slick interactive displays to the intimate tech showcases, it's evident that Google is keen on exploring cutting-edge concepts. I would highly recommend taking a tour at Google or working with these amazing people if the opportunity ever presented itself. It's not just a business; it's a group of forward-thinking individuals working together to improve the world every day.✨
