Having identity crisis? You need to listen to this. We live in a world where we're given a certain standard to achieve. In order for us to be accepted by the society, we have to follow rules, norms, and social expectations. Being our authentic self is the least society expect us to be. Why? Because society love standards. Something they can understand. Something they don't need to guess. Something they can measure and put numbers on. Identity crisis happen to those who know they're not being true to themselves and it's suffocating them for living as someone else but also at the same time too scared to be authentic because they're afraid of rejection and being isolated. I, for example, is exactly someone like that. I'm too afraid to embrace who I really am because I know how the people around me would think of me if I have show them my true self. I try to achieve every standards that people expect from me. I thought it can make them acknowledge me. I've been doing it for almost all my life. Sad thing? I realize in the end, I will never be enough for them. I will never be able to achieve the standard given to me because it's just not who I am. Instead, I'm losing myself trying to get acknowledgement that I will never get, and I live a miserable life, away from my authentic self. So, I decided to break the cycle and tell myself, "you know what? enough is enough. If people don't care about how much effort you put in order to make them acknowledge you, then why should you kill yourself for them?". From then on, I make peace with my authentic self and try to get that person back to my life to make my life less miserable than it already is. Do you have such experience? Share with me on comment.
