We believe that we can take care of each other in affirming and consensual ways, without involuntary actions. At THRIVE, your consent matters. What does health equity look like in Oregon? It looks like investing in communities that are creating solutions to systemic barriers that exacerbate health disparities within their community. Wheelchair users wait 6-8 WEEKS or longer to receive simple repairs on their mobility devices, without which they may be completely immobile. And preventative maintenance that keeps users active and healthy is not covered by insurance. Oregon Spinal Cord Injury Connection hosts a Wheelchair Maintenance Workshop in Portland and Medford, OR to address a critical gap in DME services for Oregon wheelchair users. Want to be part of the solution? Let's partners to invest in this community-driven solution. #health #equity #disability #community #solutions #investinhealth Oregon Health Authority AllCare Health Health Share of Oregon CareOregon
There are over five million wheelchair users in the United States. According to a 2021 University of Pittsburgh study, more than half of all their wheelchairs need repairs on average every six months—and fixing them can take months at a time. But what’s taking so long, what causes damage to wheelchairs in the first place, and why do users sometimes have to bear at least some of the costs themselves?

🚲 Empowering Communities through Mobility: GrindrodCSR Phase 2 Unveiled! Have a glimpse into how these bicycles change lives in these communities. Witness the transformative power of bicycles as we pedal into the next phase of the Grindrod CSR Mobility Program. In the initial phase, we proudly engaged with five schools — EP Mailane, EP Michangulene, EP Goba Estação, EP Mafavuca, and EPC Mundavene — providing 177 bicycles. Now, the program is expanding his reach to seven more schools, distributing another 365 bicycles into EP Pessene, EP Tenga, EP Moamba, EP Bairro Sul, EP Ressano Garcia, Incomati, and Movene. These bicycles aren't just vehicles, they're catalysts for change. Distributed among students, teachers, school staff, and budding entrepreneurs through bicycle workshops across these 12 communities, the goal is clear: to simplify daily lives, enhance mobility, and boost attendance rates. By providing bicycles, we're fostering an environment conducive to academic growth, reducing absenteeism among students, teachers, and staff members alike. Moreover, our initiative extends beyond mere distribution. The Program recognizes the top 20% of students' exceptional performances by gifting them bicycles, igniting their motivation to excel further. As these students transition from 6th Grade to Secondary school, these bicycles become more than just a mode of transport; they become invaluable assets, bridging the gap between distant primary and secondary education centers. But it doesn't stop there! Empowering local youth by imparting training in mechanics and small business management and establishing Rural Bicycle shops within their communities. This not only sustains the initiative but also cultivates economic independence among the younger generation. Teachers and staff members travel between 5 and 45 kilometers to reach their workplaces, with scarce public transport options. The average commute spans three hours daily and this has, unfortunately, led to delays and frequent absences, impacting the teaching, and learning experiences of our students. However, with the introduction of bicycles, lives have taken a positive turn. Previously faced with daunting distances and delays, our beneficiaries now experience a newfound freedom and efficiency in their daily routines. Today, their lives have been transformed for the better! Join us in celebrating the power of mobility in transforming communities. Together, we're pedaling towards a brighter future! https://lnkd.in/dZ4kGf7Z #grindrod #onebicycleatatime #Mozambikes #changemakers #Mobility

It has been said numerous times that home is where the heart is and if that is true, why wouldn’t you do everything you can to make it a better place for all. A year ago, it was made clear that students with mobility constraints in Lancaster County are more capable than previously assumed. Can you imagine being told you would never be able to experience the simple joy of riding a bike? Many students in our community have been constrained for too long. Pedals Possible chooses to focus on every child’s ability rather than their disability. Embracing this, Pedals Possible is placing adaptive bikes in schools to improve mental and physical wellness among students with mobility constraints. And to bring joy to a group of individuals who have been told no, way too many times. Lancaster County School District is the first ever community to have these adaptive bikes within their schools. The success has improved the lives of students, teachers, and parents. But, there are students all across our state who have yet to embrace the freedom riding a bike can provide them. With only one bike left to complete the need in Lancaster County, we are ready to improve lives of students with mobility constraints all over the state of South Carolina. 1 Peter 4:10 reads, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.”. What good is it to only use your skills to benefit yourself? All this to say, Pedals Possible is now located on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Please support Pedals Possible in our efforts by following and staying up to date with us.
Placing adaptive bikes in schools, through local rotary clubs, to foster physical and emotional improvements for students with mobility constraints.
On your mark, get set, go. Are you ready to change your community one smile at a time? Embark on a journey with us as we aspire to provide adaptive bikes for schools in order to foster physical and emotional improvements in children with mobility constraints. Best bottle cap ever!!! Imagine if our communities were filled with products that enabled us to thrive? #purpose #delicoso So thrilled to see Newman's Own, Inc. products for sale on supermarket shelves in the #Bronx! I’ve been pushing #local #retailers to do this for years! I’m excited to teach children and parents how to leverage their purchasing power for good - that each and every day we vote with our forks and mouths as well as our wallets and ballots. In partnership with Newman's Own Foundation, Green Bronx Machine has gone on to #impact lives from the #Bronx to #Appalachia including the first, foster-care run, commercial farm in #America! When I show children a picture of Mr. Newman, they usually think he is my father - just another older white guy in a big hat! When they learn about his work, his legacy, his mission and his vision, it changes them from conspicuous consumers into conscientious customers who better understand the ecosystems of our world! And that’s good business for everyone! EMBRACE YOUR INNER NEWMAN and do something #philanthropic today! #philanthropymatters What’s in your shopping cart and on your FreshDirect #shopping list? MAKE EPIC HAPPEN!

Because every kid loves to ride a bike 🚲😍 Had a great time today delivering this Rifton Equipment Adaptive Tricycle today. This little one uses a Flux walker for her everyday mobility but we've gone with a little trike that helps build those leg muscles. Trikes aren't just for fun. They promote: Physical Exercise: It allows kids with disabilities to engage in physical exercise and activity, promoting cardio health. They also improve leg strength, coordination and spatial awareness. Inclusion: Adaptive tricycles enable children with disabilities to participate in activities with their peers, promoting social inclusion and boosting their self-esteem. Outdoor Enjoyment: It encourages outdoor play and exploration, which is great for a child's overall development. And who doesn't love being outdoors? Why not just any trike? These tricycles are designed with adaptations to accommodate various physical challenges, such as balance and coordination issues. These include harnesses, laterals, hip positioners and foot straps. They're also built with carers in mind. You'll see the handle bar at the back that helps mum and dad steer while the child focuses on pushing. Lastly, these tricycles are built to last and grow considerably, making them a valuable investment that can serve a child for years as they grow and develop. This bike was charity funded by Coast Ability. Big thank you to APEX Mobility and Independent Living Specialists for contributing to discounting this product and providing it for half the cost we normally would. #OccupationalTherapy #AssistiveTechnology #AdaptiveEquipment #Rifton #ILSkids

According to an article I found on JSTOR Daily, motorcycle riders make a community that cuts across a wide spectrum of class, race, gender, and age. The article argues that these communities are self-identifying groups that counteract and resist the fragmentation of contemporary social life. They are equivalent to clubs and fraternal organizations; people who don’t want to “bowl alone.” The article also notes that riders are struggling against enormous socioeconomic upheavals: deindustrialization and the obliteration of blue-collar jobs; residential transformations, including gentrification; the end of life-time white-collar sinecures. Humans being humans, we have responded in many ways; some have joined this particular subculture. Link to article: A History of Motorcycle Communities - JSTOR Daily
