It’s official! The European Union AI Act has just been published.
It marks a significant development in the regulation of artificial intelligence technologies. This legislation aims to set comprehensive standards for the ethical and responsible deployment of AI, addressing several critical areas.
At Clario, we are taking all aspects of #AI very seriously. Compliance with any regulation, including the new AI Act, is of utmost importance to us. We are committed to ensuring all our AI technologies adhere to these standards, fostering a trustworthy and reliable environment for patients and study sponsors.
As a reminder, key elements of the AI Act:
- Risk-based approach: Obligations for providers and users are laid out depending on the AI system’s level of risk.
- Transparency and Accountability: The Act requires clear guidelines to ensure transparency in AI systems, enabling users to understand the basis of AI-driven decisions.
- Ethical Considerations: Emphasizes the importance of ethical AI development, focusing on fairness, mitigation of biases, and respect for human rights.
- Safety and Security: Robust measures are introduced to manage risks, enhance cybersecurity, and prevent the misuse of AI technologies.
The AI Act is a crucial step in ensuring that AI technologies are developed and utilized responsibly. Even though regulation is seen as a bottleneck to innovation, I believe in the opposite. It will help us to safeguard high-quality innovation, especially in sensitive industries such as healthcare and life science where we are involved daily and it will help sustain the credibility and trustworthiness of all upcoming AI breakthroughs. I am looking forward to seeing the collaborative work of all stakeholders across sectors in implementing these guidelines.
Special thanks to the amazing team at Clario who is ensuring the right governance of #AI Tancredi Vergani, Lauren Misztal, Todd Rudo, Gaurav Josan and Jay Ferro.
