According to the website Days of the Year, today is National Insurance Awareness Day. While it may be a made-up “holiday,” understanding insurance is an important aspect of financial literacy. Our Literacy & Learning Success Centers help our students build basic literacy and the skills necessary for personal financial management, including budgeting, taxes, insurance, and investing. And because educated citizens work, pay taxes and give back to their communities, when you support adult education programs, you are making a sound investment in your community. Founder, C-Suite leader known for developing inclusive cultures focused on high performance for companies and philanthropies seeking to drive greater impact in the world
Must read report and gratitude to Giving Gap for setting the record straight with data and insights to draw attention to the critical role and high performance of nonprofits founded by Black leaders. We need more large scale philanthropy, like Fidelity Charitable Catalyst Fund, addressing the funding disparities for communities of color and their nonprofits. "Despite their unwavering commitment to addressing our country's greatest social challenges, Black leaders and their organizations are forced to navigate a funding ecosystem that unfairly advantages their white counterparts and restricts their own capacity for growth." Many Black community and non-profit leaders face roadblocks in gaining access to capital to start, sustain and/or scale up their work. In partnership with Doritos SOLID BLACK, the Black Nonprofit Changemakers program seeks to narrow that gap and provide participants with the assets they need to not only survive but to adapt and thrive. Damon Daniel, President of Impact 100 organization AdHoc Group Against Crime, has noticed a shift in traditional nonprofit funding towards trust-based philanthropy. But gaps still exist when it comes to Black-led organizations seeking funding. We met with five Black nonprofit leaders to discuss the challenges they have experienced growing their organizations and securing funding. Damon shares about the importance of investing in people who look like the communities they serve, the need for flexible funding, and the biggest obstacles that Black leaders face in this article: https://buff.ly/49iyGUS #BlackHistoryMonth

Communications and Fundraising Consultant. Advocate for dementia care, unhoused neighbors, equitable maternity care, and loves intergenerational communities.
"Fundraising must be grounded in race, equity, and social justice." That's the first principle of Community-Centric Fundraising. Over the last few years, I've learned much from fellow communications and fundraising professionals implementing CCF principles. I felt more comfortable fundraising when holding these beliefs at the core while asking myself what ideologies of mark-comms and fundraising I need to let go of to develop the CCF mindset better. It can be challenging as not all organizations and boards embrace changes, so it's helpful that CCF has a community of folks to turn to for support. If you have not heard of CCF, please take time this week and start reading and absorbing. It often feels like in comms and development we are in a vicious cycle of never being able to stop and take a bird's-eye view - especially if you are a team of one or lack support. Get a coffee or tea, schedule uninterrupted time, and start this work. **Homework: Review a principle every day for the next ten days and consider whether your organization lives up to it. If it does not, what changes will you make to incorporate CCF principles into your development and communications strategies? Join the community, read the blogs, and see how you can improve the mentality around fundraising in your organization and community. https://lnkd.in/gDVeeYJq #equityandinclusion #community #CCF #changehowitsalwaysbeendone #principles #fundraising #marketing #communities #storytelling #equitable #socialjustice
