An interesting look at the scale of fossil fuel extraction. Those who believe that the impact of extraction to transition to renewables outweigh that of the annual impact of extracting and burning fossil fuels, should be encouraged to consider this.

US monthly average rig count by basin. Permian has been the least affected of recent. Only -8 rigs from 2023 max as of June EIA monthly data. That's important as it's the primary US focus.

The multiple pay zones that the Permian Basin has makes it so good. It’s future is very important and will remain. It is the largest oil and gas play in the US. The natural gas market will continue to grow with cryogenic processing and with Europe needs. We need to return to energy independence and push pipelines to the Gulf Coast for export.
