Escalating temperatures and diminishing rainfall exacerbate the expansion of desertification, threatening communities' well-being. But amidst these challenges, hope blooms. 🌱💧 🌳At Lignaverda, we're not just planting trees; we're cultivating sustainable solutions hand in hand with local communities. Our approach actively involves communities in reforestation and sustainable forest management practices. 💼 We empower locals by compensating them for collecting and sowing seeds in degraded areas and establishing community forest management committees to protect and utilize forest resources wisely. Through socio-economic initiatives and capacity-building training, we foster community buy-in for reforestation efforts. 🌍💪 Together, with initiatives like Lignaverda’s, we can turn the tide against desertification and build resilient communities for a brighter, greener future. Today is World Environment Day, and this year’s theme, 'Generation Restoration', highlights the critical issues of land restoration, desertification and drought resilience. At Health Partners, we are working to support the solution through our partnership with Tree Nation. This European NGO's dedication to tree-planting initiatives across developing nations aligns perfectly with our values, and Tree Nation's reforestation projects are at the frontline of combating desertification. To date, our collaboration with Tree Nation has resulted in over 6,600 trees planted, underlining our commitment to not only offset emissions but to help forge a sustainable future. Every year, 15 billion trees are lost globally, an area the size of the UK. (2019) 🌳 However, measuring forest loss has limitations, treating all deforestation equally. 🌴 This hinders prioritization, diverting attention from critical issues like tropical #deforestation. 'Forest loss' represents deforestation and forest degradation. 🌲 Deforestation permanently changes land use, while degradation thins the canopy temporarily. 25% of #forest loss is from tropical deforestation, driven by commodity-driven deforestation. In contrast, temperate regions experience more forest degradation. Let's protect these life-giving #forests!
