So, you think you’re ready for SEPA instant?! And ISO 20022??!! And CoP???!!! And VoP????!!!! These are exciting developments, but the deadlines are tight. Europe is taking a leap forward with new legislation that will make around-the-clock instant payments the de-facto payment method for both consumers and businesses. Banks, already extremely stretched delivering significant payments transformation projects such as the migration to ISO 20022 in correspondent banking, must be able to send and receive instant payments at scale by the end of 2025. On 7th February 2024, the European Parliament mandated that instant payments (in less than 10 seconds) should be the de facto standard for consumers and businesses in the #SEPA zone, with a deadline set of 9th January 2025 to deliver this service. For smaller banks with already stretched IT and development resources, less than 12 months to make significant infrastructure changes could be a step too far.
