I’ve come to realize something: work life balance is less about how I handle MY schedule, and more about how we handle OUR schedule. How can it be “balance” if I only think about myself, my meetings, my to-do lists? It’s a busy season for my wife and I. She’s a full time nursing student, AND a full time med/surg tech at a major hospital. So, sometimes vacation looks like this. She has study time and I have work time. It’s a get sh1t done attitude that allows this to work for us. Bottom line: we’re in this together. And THAT is our perfect work-life balance. #worklifebalance #happyfriday #cheers

One example of a strong work ethic is putting the effort into your tasks to get the job done and on time. However, some employees can take it too far at the expense of their health. Work life balance is something which is so important to individuals and thier family well being especially as we get older. Unrelenting Stress in senior management positions is a silent killer which typically goes unnoticed or is ignored , and delivery of targets and plans is typically the only focus from above. I've lost some great friends and colleagues who have passed away in thier late 50s and early 60s which I put down to continual stress they have worked under for many years . The body and mind can only take so much especially as we get older and exercise is the key to keep both body and mind in good shape. Exercise schedules and facilities within the workplace should be mandatory and part of a health and well being routine for all , and part of employment law. Work-life balance is a notion that is surprisingly controversial to some within the legal profession. Perhaps this suspicion towards work life balance stems from the belief that the practice of law is an anxious mistress that demands constant and unrelenting devotion. My two cents is this - we owe it to ourselves to preserve an identity beyond that of being a lawyer, and the first step towards achieving this is through work-life balance. This is necessary since our profession is a consuming one by nature. Legal practice is not a sprint but rather a marathon. One’s longevity in this profession requires mental fuel which is preserved by having work-life balance. Pupils and young lawyers are not pellets to the legal pyre. If this profession intends to retain talent, then talent shouldn’t be worn out before it matures.
