As cyber criminals continue to carry out more sophisticated attacks, protecting the UK’s critical infrastructure from cybercrime must continue to be a priority under a Labour Government. The following must be done: 🎓 Upskill and re-skill to close the cyber skills gap Reducing cybersecurity vacancies is the first step in protecting UK industry. Standardised qualifications based on International good practice, can pave a clear roadmap to upskill the cybersecurity industry. Combined with financially incentivised training programmes, this government can close the cyber skills gap. 💪 Establish a national code of practice to build cyber resilience Through assurance and assessment schemes - the establishment, promotion and incentivising of the Cyber Governance Code of Practice by Labour can build national cyber resilience. 🛡️ Defend critical infrastructures to retain consumer trust With sensitive data across all of the UK’s critical industries, no one is immune to cyberthreats. Establishing cross-industry regulatory frameworks can ensure the limitation of damage to consumers, retaining their trust. #ISACA #cybersecurity 🔎 Explore these thoughts in full: https://bit.ly/3VVi3JA

The Australian Government is expected to announce its 2023-2030 #cybersecurity strategy in the coming weeks! Earlier this year, Home Affairs and Cyber Security Minister Clare O'Neil unveiled the government's proposed plan for enhancing Australia's cybersecurity regime. O'Neil announced that the strategy will involve the development of national cyber shields. These shields aim to form a well-rounded defence for Australian citizens, businesses and agencies against an increasing global #cyberthreat. Shield 1: Long-term education of citizens and businesses The government will invest in training citizens and businesses to recognise and protect themselves against cyberthreats. In line with the government, Microsoft has already pledged that they will train 300,000 Australians in cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Shield 2: Safer technology O'Neil has announced that the government intends to introduce standards for software products. This comes as Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, US, UK and the Netherlands announced plans to develop a global standards guide for software development organisations. Shield 3: Threat sharing and blocking system A threat sharing system would allow the government and businesses to exchange real-time information about ongoing cyber risks. This information would enable the government to block cyber risks before they pose a threat to Australian citizens, businesses and agencies. Shield 4: Protection of critical infrastructure The government intends to uplift its own cyber standards to protect critical assets. Currently, a high proportion of local councils and public agencies across Australia lack basic security controls. The government aims to introduce new standards to bring these agencies and councils in line with safe cybersecurity practices. Shield 5: Sovereign capability O'Neil has expressed an interest in making cybersecurity a desirable career path for young Australians. The government intends to invest in enhancing cyber skills and improving the quality of cybersecurity professionals. Shield 6: Coordinated global action Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Tim Watts, is responsible for ensuring that the Australian government takes part in coordinated global action to combat cyber threats. The focus will be on improving cyber resilience in Australia's local Asia-Pacific region. Expectations and regulations regarding cybersecurity are in a process of rapid change. Microsoft has found that Britain’s weak cyber defences could hinder economic growth unless organisations can shore up stronger protections against escalating attacks. Some 65 per cent of senior executives in the UK’s financial services sector believe that a lack of strong cybersecurity defences could hold up the nation’s economic growth, accordingly to new data from Microsoft UK. The research also found that only 13 per cent of UK organisations across all sectors could be considered “resilient” to cybercrime, which is increasingly becoming an issue for many companies. Just yesterday it was revealed that several NHS hospitals in London came under attack this week, as did a number of high-profile accounts of celebrities and companies on Tiktok. The rising number of attacks is being caused by lower barriers to entry for hackers and criminals who can now create far more sophisticated attacks rapidly and at scale using artificial intelligence. https://lnkd.in/gGfbUmzU

#CISOTrustAdvisor -> Trends on Threat Actors "The ENISA Threat Landscape report maps the cyber threat landscape to help decision-makers, policy-makers and security specialists define strategies to defend citizens, organisations and cyberspace. Overview of evolving trends on threat actors: - Trojanising known software packages: we observe that state-nexus actors adopt attack patterns typically seen in criminal campaigns. - Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) software also stirred the attention of Cybercriminals. - Threat actors also exploit configuration errors in security products, in order to disable antivirus without administrator privileges or employing them for lateral movement. - Cybercriminals turn to cloud infrastructure of potential victims to cause harm, primarily by abusing cloud misconfigurations. This is not limited to the organisations’ systems, storage and networks running in the cloud, but also extends to the management consoles of cloud infrastructures." https://lnkd.in/dCVz_NMV

Microsoft AI researchers accidentally leak 38TB of company data In an unprecedented incident, a staggering 38 terabytes of data have been inadvertently exposed to the world, raising concerns about data security and privacy on a global scale. The leak, which has sent ripples of unease across the digital landscape, has left experts and the general public questioning the adequacy of existing data protection measures. One of the most surprising aspects of this breach is its alleged origin. Rather than being orchestrated by external hackers or cybercriminals, this security lapse is said to involve Microsoft employees themselves. The leak has not only exposed confidential corporate data but has also cast doubts on the efficacy of internal safeguards. In an era when cybersecurity threats are evolving at an unprecedented pace, this incident serves as a stark reminder that no organization, regardless of its size or reputation, is immune to data breaches. It underscores the pressing need for stronger cybersecurity practices and constant vigilance against both external and internal threats. As individuals and businesses grapple with the implications of this colossal data leak, it is clear that proactive measures are more vital than ever. Companies like Zedroit, which specialize in cutting-edge privacy solutions, are poised to play a critical role in protecting sensitive data from such breaches in the future. Group CEO CIP. Fellow Cyber Theory Institute. Director Fintech & Cyber Security Alliance (FITCA) working with Governments. NAMED AN EXPERT IN INTERNET ASSET & DNS VULNERABILITIES
The US Government (All Governments) Have a Microsoft Problem. Microsoft has stumbled through several major cybersecurity failures over the past few years. Experts say the US government’s reliance on its systems means the company continues to get a free pass and impunity. That state of affairs is unlikely to change even in the wake of a new report by the Cyber Safety Review Board (CSRB), a group of government and industry experts, which lambasts Microsoft for failing to prevent one of the worst hacking incidents in the company’s recent history. The report says Microsoft “security culture was inadequate and requires an overhaul.” Many people close to the exposed positions requested anonymity to candidly discuss the US government and their industry’s undisputed behemoth—argue that the government’s relationship with Microsoft is crippling Washington’s ability to fend off major cyberattacks that jeopardize sensitive data and threaten vital services... In 2021, Chinese government hackers discovered and used flaws in Microsoft email servers to hack the company’s customers, later releasing the flaws publicly to spark a feeding frenzy of attacks. In 2023, China again broke into Microsoft email accounts of 22 federal agencies, spying on senior State Department officials and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo ahead of multiple US delegation trips to Beijing. Then three months ago, Microsoft revealed that Russian government hackers had used a simple trick to access the emails of some Microsoft senior executives, cyber experts, and lawyers. The report also criticized Microsoft for publishing inaccurate information about the possible causes of the latest Chinese intrusion. Anyone notice a pattern here? “No harm comes from doing nothing, at least not to these companies,” Guerrero-Saade of SentinelOne says. “And that’s what’s going to destroy us.” Insecurity Entrapment is how Cybercrime flourishes and the world's Digital and Internet users have their feet held firmly to the fire.
