NCSC Launches Free Cyber Essentials Programme The most at risk sectors within the UK can join the programme. In a bid to enhance cybersecurity for small businesses operating in sectors particularly susceptible to cyber threats, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has launched the Funded Cyber Essentials Programme. This initiative aims to provide hands-on assistance to small companies in implementing crucial cybersecurity controls to mitigate the most common types of cyber-attacks. The International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC2) recently released its annual cybersecurity workforce study, revealing the worldwide need for cybersecurity professionals has hit a record high, with the estimated expert deficit at 4 million. Despite 3 out of 4 cybersecurity professionals expressing a belief that the current threat landscape is the most challenging it has been in recent times, less than half think their organisations are capable of responding to threats over the next few years with current approaches. The need for educating and certifying our cybersecurity professionals has never been more important. Only 28% of organisations have fully implemented Cyber Essentials, according to a survey by Lookout. Over a third (40%) of security professionals claimed they were unfamiliar with the scheme. Cyber Essentials is a UK government-backed programme that helps organisations improve cyber resiliency against the most common cyberattacks. "In the past, I emphasized the importance of companies understanding the risks associated with cybersecurity. Unfortunately, not many companies have a full understanding of how such risks can impact their reputation or overall business.
