We applaud the new actions taken by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to increase contraceptive coverage today on the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, and we support the call for health plans and issuers to remove barriers and broaden access to contraceptive coverage. This year is the first time NZ has ever had a Women’s Health Strategy. We have not seen women’s health and reproductive rights as a priority in our country. We have placed burden upon burden on women to be responsible to not get pregnant but also given them the financial burden of pregnancy itself. Women have to pay for GP visits to obtain contraception and further fees for long acting reversible contraception. Women are stung with copayments for antenatal scans which cost hundreds of dollars per pregnancy. Women are also affected by postnatal health problems like postnatal depression and breastfeeding difficulties. The leading cause of maternal death is suicide. So when people ask where does the money come from - my answer is that we have the money, we just need to prioritise it. Some parties say we have $25 billion for roads or $45 billion for a new harbour crossing. Health is also an investment that we have been missing and we are certainly paying the price for. 🌟 Addressing Access to Contraception 🌟 We have discussed this in the past, but it is an initiative that we feel very strongly about at Trimedic. The Canadian federal government has announced that it will cover the costs of contraception and diabetes medications for residents. This initiative aims to promote fairness and improve access to essential healthcare services, addressing disparities in healthcare accessibility across the country. Family Planning is so unique for every woman, without a doubt very unique to every family. As a result, every family experiences a unique journey with its special complexities, this in itself brings about generalized perceptions that creates myths and misconceptions on the different types of family planning options. Community Health Promoters in Kenya play a vital role in demystifying these myths and misconceptions. As they are trusted members of the society, they create awareness through the provision of clarity in the most layway, ultimately generating Family Planning demand and utilisation. As a trained nurse and service designer, I am so glad and humbled to be part of this journey of continued innovative and integrated services design of community health digital solutions and capacity building of the same that empowers the CHPs to confidently through their routine service delivery offer quality and client-tailored promotive messages and continued support at the household level on Family Planning to every Woman of the reproductive age in the communities they serve. #HappyWorldcontraceptionDay #IntegratedServiceDesign #FamilyPlanning #ThePowerofOptions #CHPs #eCHIS

This #WorldContraceptionDay, we're celebrating the strides we've made in expanding access to safe and effective #contraception while recognizing how much more work we still have to do – #WHNPs play an essential role in that! "WHNPs can seek out opportunities to lead in terms of writing protocols, creating self-screening forms, and developing education materials that can be used by pharmacists when providing HCs. Legislators need to hear from all NPs who practice evidence-based reproductive healthcare and who have witnessed the impact of disparities in access to contraceptives."
