Driving sustainability at Greenstep | Sustainability 💚 Business development 💚 Humane culture 💚Clarity
This week we got news that Vincit will start change negotiations that could lead to letting go up to 60 persons. Feelings after the news have of course been a rollercoaster, but it has been heartwarming to see how colleagues and work friends are there for each other, both in good times and bad. These type of decisions are difficult, but it makes a lot of difference how the news are communicated. We had open Q&A sessions right after the news was published. It was said right out loud that this type of situations stressful for both individuals and the entire working community, and that there is a will to want to carry out this process in the most humane and responsible manner. Tips for processing the news for us employees included: 💙 Take a moment to process this news if you need to. 💙 Remember to take care of yourself as you do for others. 💙 You can talk about the change with your supervisor, People Partner, colleagues, project managers, and anyone you feel is a trusted discussion partner. 💙 Local healthcare and wellbeing partners can also provide support. 💙 Let's be mindful of the different ways your colleagues may be experiencing this change. We all play a part in the shared social and emotional wellbeing of our community. Open and transparent communications (within the legal limitations of change negotiation process) will also include: 💙 Ongoing possibility to ask leadership questions about the background and rationale for the decisions 💙 Weekly updates throughout the negotiations These are turbulent times in many industries, but no one should have to face tough news alone. What touched me most this week was a picture from one of our offices with tissues and chocolate offered from colleague to colleague. Let's do our best to face these difficult times together. 💙

Today, we're in Liverpool, hosting our final fringe event in line with the three primary political party conferences. On this final stop, we are here at the Labour Party Conference. We're thrilled to once more collaborate with Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) and Policy Connect Last week, we had invigorating discussions at the Liberal Democrat Conference in Bournemouth and then proceeded to Manchester for the Conservative Party Conference. We are posing each of these political parties with the following questions: - How can a new government use its powers to leverage resources and build capacity in the system to meet the growing demand for care? - What steps can the government take to remove barriers to innovation that supports independent living and wellbeing? - How can government create the conditions for cross-sector innovation? Our stance is clear: Government, national entities, the TEC sector, and the intertwined realms of care, health, and housing should strike a harmonious chord. The shift from analogue to digital must be fluid, powered by unwavering leadership and a digital-savvy workforce. The key? Smart commissioning, harmonised incentives and accountabilities. Let's ensure that research isn't just a box to tick. When curated effectively, it yields evidence to foster innovation, paving the way for ground-breaking services to blossom at both national and local levels. Needless to say, stringent regulations, quality assurance, and a framework for ongoing improvement are the backbone of this mission. But let's not forget the heart - co-production. It's paramount that we empower individuals, letting them craft their care narrative. When orchestrated with finesse, anchoring individuals at the epicentre of a visionary support web can significantly uplift their life quality, a right we all deserve. Our pledge stands firm: We're here to ardently advocate for these goals with the government, whoever is in power.

🏛 Can evidence help make our Assembly better? In welcoming the restoration of the Northern Ireland Assembly, CES recognises the serious and complex social issues facing our new Executive and the pressure on Government to deliver swiftly, while embedding solutions for the long term. Here, our Director for Evidence Informed Policy Majella McCloskey, gives her thoughts on how Government in Northern Ireland can successfully achieve outcomes for local people by implementing evidence-based policy solutions. 💡 Evidence informing policy-making Given the limited time and resources to make lives better in Northern Ireland, what can increase the chances of success? We believe a more systematic approach to using evidence throughout the decision-making process can make a big difference. This is an approach that has been used internationally in countries like South Africa and the United States to stretch scarce resources and learn quickly about whether programmes are making a difference. In Ireland and Northern Ireland our research system produces a lot of new knowledge, but bringing the right knowledge, at the right time, and in the right format to policy makers has been a persistent challenge. Effective Knowledge Brokerage provides the key to unlocking the opportunity to harness evidence to inform policy development. Leadership and culture change are vital to the success of evidence-based policy solutions. This will require new thinking and ways of working to become routine within policy development. While local delivery of policy outcomes is fundamental to the success of significant new policy initiatives, there is often a gap between the high-level goals and objectives of a national or strategic policy and how communities experience the policy as it is implemented ‘on the ground’. Essential ingredients in realising policy outcomes at a local level include agreeing a shared understanding and approach, effective communication, accountability at leadership level, and ensuring those who will be impacted by a policy are heard.
