I left my job as an analytical chemist at 25 I started learning SQL at 26 I started learning Python at 27 I started my career as a data scientist at 28 I started working in gaming at 31 And now, at 35, I am the director of a team of 40 engineers. At every step I felt like I was too old to start something new. But I learned each time that there’s no standard age to start learning new things. There’s never a wrong time to pursue your passions. And sometimes the scariest decisions we make end up being the best ones. Happy birthday to me 🎉🥳👏

I just realized we were about the same age when we went through the most significant changes! Here's my timeline: 👩🏻💻 I left my job as an event sales and marketing manager in Argentina to pursue a bachelor’s degree in international business management at 22 🌎 I got my first opportunity to continue developing my professional career abroad and moved to the U.S. at 24 🇺🇸 I decided to stay at 26 and became an American citizen at 27 💙 I’m back in college to resume my studies at the University of Michigan, pursue an MBA, and transition into management consulting at 28 I'm not going to lie: I sometimes feel a bit old! But it's important to remember that life is not a race. We all have different experiences and backgrounds; it is what it is, but that's not an excuse to give up on our goals :)

I'm 53 and I learn new things everyday. If you are in tech and you think you are too old to learn something new, you better retire. Learning is the job.

Do you ever think about where you would be and how much you'd be making if you stayed working as a chemist? Most of my friends with 20nyears exp are making under $60,000/yr. They hate their jobs too.

I switched to software development when my chemistry masters co-advisor told me that he would not let me write a thesis on computational chemistry methods/results because there are no jobs for a masters holder in that area. It took a few years to learn enough to land my first job and I've been doing software/devops now for over 10 years.

At nearly 40 I live in a closet with existential fear of AI 😂
