Now that the year is coming to a close, I've finally been able to reflect on 2023 and would like to share with you my top 3 learnings from the first year of Nosh being fully funded:   Starting from bottom to top: Top 3 “Impact is what really counts”! Building an impactful business without focusing on the business part first certainly cannot be successful in the long run. But building and operating businesses without impact is a waste of time. It is so impressive to see how nicely the whole organization and any stakeholder are aligning on a mission with an impact. Creating a food system which is not harmful anymore, neither for the planet, nor for the animals, nor for the people is our vision, working to protect the climate what drives us at Nosh.bio GmbH! Being elected to one of the top 100 solutions for the planet in europe and then even into the top5 with the presentation at the European Parliament was one of the highlights this year. 🍃 Another great 3 talks, 100 people, all climate event by Climate Connection this evening! 3 excellent speakers talking about the ways in which their jobs and ventures are fighting climate change: 🚛 Anuj Gupta, Founder of GreenVan - a great example of a founder making environmentally-conscious business decisions from the very start, even though climate change does not form part of the business value proposition. 🍅 Saasha Celestial-One, COO of Olio • Share More, Waste Less blew my mind with the statistic that sending just 1kg of food waste to landfill produces the same carbon emissions as landfilling a staggering 25,000 plastic bottles, and impressed us with how Olio is helping people waste less food at home. 💡 Sarah Tennison, Head of Clean Growth Strategy and Impact at Innovate UK, explained how insufficient market demand, risk aversion and the sheer volume of environmental problems to fix are the biggest challenges facing climate tech start-ups today, and reminded us that Innovate UK offer more than just funding. Clare McAlpine and I spent an afternoon connecting, absorbing and reflecting on all things innovation and decarbonisation at Climate Salad’s Queensland Climate Showcase delivered in partnership with Queensland Chief Entrepreneur, Advance Queensland and Trade and Investment Queensland. What a great event! As always Julia Spicer OAM championed the importance of regions in delivering innovation solutions in a decarbonising world and Mick Liubinskas called out how blown away he by his recent visit to the Greater Whitsundays. We were proud to find that our region is already active in responding to solutions discussed across the key themes of sustainable food production, improved water quality and the focus on decarbonising the SME supply chain. The 3 big takeaways for us were- 1. Evidence is everything in getting an idea backed and transitioning it into reality. 2. When you are in the business of solving complex problems you have to keep focused on your North Star - your reason for being and the outcomes you are trying to achieve. 3. When you are ahead of your time - you need to think about what can you do now to take people on the journey. We heard about so many diverse technologies that are going to help us decarbonise including - eco friendly beads that can clean all types of contaminated water, hydrogen planes, putting a price on environmental impact, apps that can coach you in disposing of waste better and using lightening to increase crop yields!
