🚨 Big news coming out of SF Climate Week! 💥 At an event tonight, we announced a major partnership with XPRIZE to support the $100 Million XPRIZE Carbon Removal! The $100 Million XPRIZE Carbon Removal is a global competition aimed at tackling the biggest threat facing humanity - fighting climate change and rebalancing Earth's carbon cycle. This is a major step forward for advancing breakthrough CDR solutions that have the potential to scale to gigatonne levels. 📰 Here are the details: 🔹 How it works: Carbonfuture’s digital MRV system will enable the collection of performance and verification data across the 20 finalists competing for the XPRIZE Carbon Removal, in line with the rigorous standards set by XPRIZE. XPRIZE's verification partners will access this data through the Carbonfuture MRV+ system to verify the projects. 🔹 Why it matters: Carbonfuture and XPRIZE’s partnership is a great example of leaders in CDR innovation coming together to build #trust in carbon removal efforts and accelerate their scalability through rigorous monitoring, reporting, and verification (#MRV). Current levels of #climatetech implementation are inadequate to address this challenge. We need efficient and rapid scaling up of implementation. How do we implement #ClimateTech? The 2023 Climate Technology Progress Report, launched today, provides invaluable insights into how we can speed up critical implementation of technologies needed to mitigate and adapt to the #climatecrisis. UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre, Climate Technology Progress Report, 2023 is available now. Contributing to governance and institutions chapter, describing these as enabling dimensions for climate tech progress. We suggest that: 1) Flexibility, adaptability, and anticipatory governance systems is important, in times of complexity and uncertainty. Future governance systems should prioritize being flexible, adaptable, and anticipatory and inevitably requires new kinds of capacities to steer, coordinate, build partnerships amongst multi stakeholders in various spatial scales, and across sectors 2)The capacity to pull multiple policy levers that are needed in order to access opportunities, which may exist at different scales and in different sectors, can be challenging. Local leadership and stewardship play a key function in enabling the establishment of comprehensive policies that foster climate technology action. 3) Ensuring effective collaboration and communication can be challenging, especially when formal and informal structures are complex and overly bureaucratic.
