We are thrilled to have been re-accredited Silver by the Irish Centre for Diversity. Investors in Diversity is Ireland’s premier D&I accreditation and it supports the journey of continuous progress by providing a structured framework to transform practices and culture. Silver re-accreditation shows that we've been compared to other organisations and that we're keeping inclusive practices strong in everything we do. It also helps build a shared sense of fairness and belonging in our teams. We look forward to continue on with this framework over the next few years

After having a trustee board meeting recently and prepping for our own upcoming GirlDreamer advisory board meeting, it got me reflecting on the state of trusteeship in this country. And it's pretty grim. I served on a national board, and now serve on a local one and my own organisations and spoiler alert, the difference is stark. Local boards led by minoritised groups naturally have higher levels of diversity as they are ✨ intentionally ✨ set up to reflect the people they serve and are formed with the understanding of the importance of representation and lived experience. Larger/national/global boards however, can follow the 🚩status 🚩 pattern and reflect what/who is *perceived* to have the best/most professional expertise and that usually results in the statistics below. Despite the fact that people from all walks of life actually have those particular skills they're after too. Go figure. All of this to say, the below👇🏾doesn't reflect society and if organisation's continue to want higher levels of reflective leadership, it stems from internal culture and practices and not external diversity recruitment solutions. The problem, as with everything in life, is from the inside out. What are your views on boards and the "challenge" with diversity on them? 🤔 #boards #trustees *these stats are what I could find & might have changed/different elsewhere*

Our continuous efforts to build a better world – through people, communities and the environment - are being recognised. We’re not going to lie – it feels good. We've been nominated THREE times at the South West Business Masters Awards 2023 for: ⭐Disruptor of the Year ⭐Our approach to Sustainability ⭐Employer of the Year As a certified B Corp business, we truly live and breathe our values, and we’re pretty obsessed about how we can be better every year too. We’re not like a lot of other companies. Simply, we don’t want to be. We don’t want to be difficult, we just want to be different, and these nominations reassure us that we’re on the right track. #BCorp #EcoConsultancy #PurposeDrivenBusiness #Awards #SouthWest

Boardrooms for the Next Generation 📇 As organisations face new challenges around technology, talent, and sustainability, boards need directors who bring fresh perspectives and innovative thinking. And with that, diversity is key. Research shows that diverse boards support stronger governance. With board composition constantly evolving, the traditional candidate pool is no longer an option. We must consider first-time directors and those with diverse, non-traditional backgrounds. I'm proud to share that I've recently completed a board director training course with Foundation for Shared Impact (FSI) taught by David Bishop, equipping me with a deep understanding of the crucial responsibilities and best practices for modern boards. A few key learnings from my training: 1. Risk Mitigation: Boards play a vital role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating strategic, operational, financial, and reputational risks facing the organisation. This requires robust risk management frameworks, clear communication with management, and ongoing monitoring. 2. Legal Compliance: Ensuring the organisation’s adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards is a core board duty. 3. Fiduciary Duties: As fiduciaries, board members have a legal and moral obligation to act in the best interests of the organisation and its shareholders. This includes providing effective oversight, making informed decisions, and prioritising long-term sustainable value creation. 4. Strategic Oversight: Beyond just reviewing management's plans, boards must actively shape the company's strategic direction, challenge assumptions, and guide the organisation through periods of profound change. I'm excited to bring my fresh perspective and innovative thinking to the boardrooms of the future, helping to drive more effective governance, stronger risk management, and sustainable value creation. As a young leader, I look forward to being part of shaping this new diversity of boards. Thank you The New Normal Charity Hong Kong 常態慈善(香港), Jessica Hulton and Benjamin May for giving me this opportunity. #boarddiversity #womenonboards #boardroom #boarddirectors

New board members can bring enthusiasm, a fresh perspective and new ideas to the table. Yet joining a board can be a daunting experience and transitions are most successful when boards properly orientate their new directors to the cultures and practices of their organisation. https://lnkd.in/gGmx9vVA
