Last week, we hosted a motivated group of visitors from the US, as part of the "STEM & Enterprise Learning and Understanding New Career Horizons" program set up by Cultural Vistas. This program brought 11 students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) studying STEM and economics to Berlin. Their mission was to connect with Germany’s start-up ecosystem and to explore career opportunities in business, research, and academia. At our HQ, the students discussed product development, business strategies, and career paths with our team, hearing firsthand about the diverse backgrounds and experiences that brought them to Cambrium. Shout out to our lab team for organizing a remote tour! Thank you for your visit and insightful questions! We hope to connect with many of you in the future. #MaterialsThatMatter

✨🌟 I had the incredible opportunity to attend the American Technion Society’s Pitch Night, and wow, here are some gems I picked up that I think you'll love: 1. I was blown away by the impact and scope of ATS NY Metro. It's not the MTA, but it’s just as massive with its numerous STEM initiatives👩🏻🔬 2. AI dominated the event, with about 90% of the ventures presented focusing on it. A fun fact: many of the SUMBA students come from diverse backgrounds, not just computer science. So yes, you can do it too👩🏻🎓 3. Before diving into solutions, make sure you’re passionate about the problem you're solving. It should ignite a spark in you, as you'll spend a lot of time thinking and dreaming about it🪩 4. Your connections are your BIGGEST asset. This amazing invite came because I wasn't afraid to ask for new connections publicly. Huge shout-out to Libby Budashev and 🎗️Lital Attia, PhD, SUMBA MBA, for making this happen! 🧚🏻♀️ And that’s the nutshell version! 🌟🌟🌟 On a personal note, I’m just like you—a woman striving for success and mastering LinkedIn as a crucial self-marketing tool. Did you connect with this? Feel like I missed something or have tips to share? It was a great experience getting the opportunity to speak as part of a tech sales panel at IESE business school in Barcelona, which is one of the highest rated MBA programs in the world, very surreal. The topic was around “navigating a career in B2B tech sales”, and here are a couple of takeaways: 1. Your back ground doesn’t and shouldn’t define you. Meaning that just because your background is not in tech or not in sales per se, that you would not be able to succeed. To the contrary in fact, and a more empowering question you should ask yourself and focus on is “what are the transferable skills that I can take from what I am doing now into this new career I am going to embark on”. 2. B2B sales in an amazing career, everyone on the panel expressed how much they loved the industry, the career opportunity, the financial rewards etc, and even though B2B sales isn’t taught in most colleges around the world it’s an industry that has changed many lives both personally and professionally. 3. However, if you are not hungry to learn and constantly push yourself then B2B sales is probably not for you. Being resourceful, and learning quickly is paramount as the industry is changing and developing so fast, that if you are not able to adapt with the times you will be left behind. 4. Everyone of us on the panel (apart from 2) were a part of different companies selling very different technologies, but the common denominator across all panelist’s is that understanding what problem your product solves for your customer is critical as that at the end of the day is why organisations invest in technology, which is to solve problems and/or capture opportunities. The better you understand the problems your service or product solves, the better you will be able to articulate the value of your solution, and that is what moves money and gets people to invest in you vs your competition. Thanks Rhea Ganapathy, Giovanni Zoboli & Tom Prebensen for organising/hosting as well as to Janek Löffler, Brigitte Desanne Minks, Niclas Finer, Brian Blaney and Roshini Malhotra for being great fellow panelists, I learnt a lot from listening to all of you! 👏🏻 #techsales #careerdevelopment #growthmindset

Help PhDs to kick-start careers in industry | Co-Founder and CEO @Alma.me | Building a bridge between academia and industry | Speaker | Scientist
From Lab to Business: Week 10 after academia Making the transition from academia to entrepreneurship, I anticipated various challenges: - Mindset difference - Financial instability - Lack of structure - Balancing roles - Work-life balance - etc. However, what I did not consider, and what turned out to be the most significant challenge, is how I would cope without having a physical office where I can meet people and feel like I belong. I started to feel quite isolated and lonely at home. Focusing on solutions instead of problems, I thought about co-working spaces in Stockholm. And where could I, with Alma.Me be better be situated than at A Working Lab, which is essentially positioned between academia and industry? Closing the gap between academia and industry is our mission at Alma.Me. Where and how could we build a better bridge between the two? Armando Cázares-Körner, thank you for being so welcoming. I am looking forward to fruitful collaborations to close the gap between academia and industry. --- Are you feeling overwhelmed and lost in your transition from academia to industry? At Alma.Me, we help PhDs land jobs in their ideal industry careers. Check out our 5-part course, "Post-Academic Me," on our website to help you ace your career search. #phd #academia #mytransitionjourney

As someone who has personally experienced the life-changing/transformative opportunities of a career in modern manufacturing, I'm on a mission to spread this message far and wide, especially to underserved communities and the next generation of creators. That's what The New American Manufacturing Renaissance Tour is all about - igniting that unrelenting American spirit in students and communities across the country. We want to open their eyes to the incredible opportunities in advanced manufacturing, and show them that they can create a bright future for themselves while shaping the world around them. During the tour, we'll bring exciting exhibits, competitions, and industry meetups right to their cities and schools. They'll get to see cutting-edge technology up close, hear from leaders in the field, and start envisioning themselves in the "New Collar" workforce. But we need partners to help power this movement. By sponsoring a tour stop in your community, you're not just supporting an event - you're investing in your future talent pipeline and empowering homegrown innovation. You're telling those students "We believe in you, and we're here to champion your potential." So let's unite around this shared mission and build an unstoppable renaissance together. Your zip code shouldn't determine your destiny, and genius shouldn't be limited by a lack of opportunity. I want every young person to know that a rewarding career in manufacturing is within reach, no matter where they start out. If my story of going from teenage father to manufacturing leader strikes a chord with you, then join me in spreading that inspiration nationwide. Let's reignite the unrelenting spirit of American ingenuity, one community at a time, until "Made in America" isn't just a slogan - it's a badge of honor worn by the next generation of makers and creators we empowered to succeed. The Renaissance is calling. Let's answer, together. 🇺🇸✊✊🏽✊🏿✊🏻 Shout out to AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology and IMTS - International Manufacturing Technology Show for sponsoring since our inauguration 3 years running! #MFGTour2024 #NewCollarPride #cultureCreators #NewAmericanManufacturingRenaissance #MadeinAmerica #NAMR
