It was an honor and pleasure to deliver the keynote panel, along with Alex Rappaport, CEO DCVC-backed ZwitterCo, at Harvard’s 2024 Entrepreneurship Summit, organized by the Harvard Undergraduate Venture Capital Group (VCG), an active venture capital club run by Harvard undergraduate students. The Entrepreneurship Summit explored many issues related to start-ups and entrepreneurship with a very pragmatic lens on how to launch and fund new companies.
ZwitterCo is an exciting young company that is transforming the performance and economics of membrane treatment in the water industry. Alex and I focused on how founding teams and investors work together to navigate both the opportunities and the challenges of growing a start-up —this tight collaboration has helped ZwitterCo grow and mature from its early formation to now being a multi-product company with international sales. We also discussed at some length the importance of actively working on trust-building between Management and the Board and the importance of codifying company values early in a start-up's journey, as these form the basis of a company's culture and provide clarity, meaning and purpose to each team member as the company works to change the world.
My role during our panel discussion was easy – don’t mess anything up and get the mic into Alex’s hands! Those who know Alex know he is a rare communicator – clear, engaging and authentic. The students and young entrepreneurs in the audience seemed to relate strongly to Alex and his journey. Only a few years ago he was a student with no specific business idea but possessing the desire to make a difference in the world and the conviction that he could get it done. Today, he leads a fast-growing company addressing the grand challenge of global water scarcity. ZwitterCo is globally recognized as one of the world’s most innovative companies and has won recognition from Forbes, Fast Company and Global Water Intelligence (GWI).
To the Harvard VCG team – well done! You delivered a well-organized, thoughtfully curated and professionally managed event. DCVC was proud to be a Platinum Sponsor. We look forward to watching your careers and have high expectations for the impact each of you will make!
