Partnerships is on the way up! There’s still a long road ahead, but… Momentum is building. Executives are starting to pay attention and ask questions (albeit not always the right ones). Roles are starting to open up. Investors are asking about ecosystem strategies more often. Budgets for partnerships tooling are becoming more common (and larger). This is the time for our community to coalesce and work together to build upon this momentum. We need to hold ourselves, and each other accountable, to deliver results AND to share our successes with the community. We need to keep educating those around us on how, and why, partnerships are successful. This year will be a catalyst for transformation in our industry. We just need to keep grinding, measuring, connecting, and sharing. That was the conclusion from last week’s gathering of top Partnership Leaders in San Diego. We need to bring folks in early, often and intentionally, even if we feel like we're repeating ourselves. Your team aren’t Your Family. Stop calling them that. They are your team. And that is enough. My team are awesome and I love the culture we are building. But we are team. Not a family. Family’s don’t get to choose each other. We are born into them. This isn’t the same with a team. Teams a forged through the need to get a job done. They are built through communication. They end if the job isn’t getting done or if the job is finished. My team and I are solid. Are there areas we could improve? Of course. But we aren’t a family. I don’t want us to be. As I said above, families don’t really have a choice to be together. I want my team to choose to be part of this. I want my team to know this is the right place for them. I want my team to want to grind it out together. It’s not easy working in a start up and scale ups like ours. Especially one that is making up what it does every day. And so I want a team who wants to be here. I’ve already got a family.
