Korea COVID-19: The Good News
Today's data from the Korea CDC is an overwhelmingly positive testament to Korea’s crisis mgt program:
> Total tested: 158,569
> Total test results in process: 19,620
> Total confirmed cases: 6,767
> Fatality rate: 0.65%
Unfortunately, most media coverage of Korea’s situation has been unfairly negative so here is the good news:
> Korea is carrying out a massive testing effort via hospitals, clinics and drive-through testing sites
> Korea’s “high” number of confirmed cases (when compared to other countries) is largely due to Korea completing more tests than other countries
> Korea’s comprehensive testing provides transparent data that is a valuable reference for public health experts globally
> 90% of Korea’s confirmed cases are contained in three special situation clusters located 150 miles south of Seoul, Korea’s largest city. Extensive medical resources have been deployed there and the medical professionals on the front line should commended!
> Despite wide testing in Seoul, there are only 108 cases among its +10 million residents. Kudos to Mayor Park!
Korea’s COVID-19 response has been extremely effective and should be studied by community leaders worldwide as they work to protect their citizens.
