On Wednesday, the 19th of June 2024, the second edition of the BUREN Cycling Tour took place, starting (and finishing) at our office in The Hague. Joined by a great group of clients and relations, our colleagues cycled on beautiful routes in different groups and met for coffee/refreshments and cake during the stopover. Former pro, Bram Tankink, cycled with us on Wednesday. Thank you, Bram, for joining us! We would like to thank all our clients and relations for joining us! It was a fantastic day. Hopefully see you next year! #BUREN #legal #tax #notary #BURENcyclingtour #cyclingtour #thehague #BURENwielerevent

Highlights from this week’s Velo-city conference: Emil Rensvala from the Norwegian Cyclists’ Association, shares key advice for #cities, associations and related initiatives battling ‘Bikelash’ – resistance to #cycling infrastructure projects: 1. Gather around a CLEAR vision 2. SHARE ownership 3. Include the SILENT majority 4. Ask the RIGHT questions 5. Minimize ASYMMETRY of power between ‘expert’ and ‘citizen’ 6. View communication as a MARATHON (consistency wins the race, but turn it into a sprint when you see DISINFORMATION being spread!) 7. VISUALISE the future and the benefits 8. Street or road? Open the IMAGINATION (to see all possibilities) 9. Try measures out – this allows people to get a ‘FEEL’ for the change 10. MINIMISE disruptions in the construction phase 11. POLITICIANS: lead the way 12. Give citizens MORE than they lose Good food for thought! #VC24 #CyclingRevolution #CyclingInfrastructure Cycling Industries Europe

⛸️ Impact on ice! Ten years ago, Schaatsbaan Rotterdam won a local grant of 2 million euro, known as the Stadsinitiatief, and started a mobile ice rink. 💚 They attract over 250,000 visitors annually, including 40,000 children who are part of a free school skating program, and they also support several social initiatives. 🌈 Over the course of a decade, the fully-fledged 400-meter track, supplemented with fun and curling lanes, became a true icon of the city comparable to the Markthal and Central Station. Our own Mayor Aboutaleb says so… ♻️ Last but not least, it has a 60% lower energy consumption than conventional ice rinks, and is the only profitable skating rink in the country. 🌍 As a result, there is great international interest in this typical initiative from Rotterdam. #rotterdam #sports #socialimpact #urbanism #entrepreneurship

Question - is there evidence that the various Cycle To Work schemes have led to an increase in cycling, particularly commuting/utility cycling? Is there also evidence proving these schemes have led to an increase in new bicycle sales, in particular to people new to cycling , or have they simply enabled those who were going to buy a bike anyway buy it cheaper at the expense of the retailer?
With more than 500 cycle businesses having now signed up to the Association of Cycle Traders' campaign for change to the Cycle to Work scheme, a delegation from the ACT has met with All Party Parliamentary Group Cycling & Walking co-chairs Fabian Hamilton MP and Selaine Saxby MP to set out the industry’s concerns about the implementation of the scheme and calling for immediate change. Jonathan Harrison from the ACT, who was joined at Westminster by independent retailers Mike Rice, chairman of Balfe's Bikes, which has twelve stores across Greater London, and Mark James, partner in JE James, which has stores in Chesterfield, Rotherham and Sheffield, told the committee that there was an urgent need to improve the scheme. 🚲 Reflecting on a fantastic Global Capacity Building Day On Active Mobility! 🌟 A heartfelt thank you to all the participants who made yesterday's event on cycling and walking so engaging. It was inspiring to witness various organizations from over the world coming together, exchanging ideas, and gathering valuable insights. The connections made during the day emphasized the power of collaboration. Together, we are stronger, and we're committed to carrying forward the momentum generated. As a country known for cycling, let's aspire for a future where other nations follow suit. However, we recognize that achieving this vision requires a collective effort. That's why we're on a mission to train 10,000 local active mobility experts within the next 10 years. Our goal is to empower people to take charge —providing them with the tools, not just the solutions. The day was a resounding success, thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of everyone involved. To a future where sustainable active mobility is a global reality! 🌍 #GlobalCapacityBuilding #Cycling #Walking #ActiveMobility #Collaboration #Empowerment #Vitality Arlette van Gilst Teun Zeegers Pui-Yuen Cheng Jelle Bakker Carly Gilbert-Patrick Claudia Adriazola @davidtron Brecht Vercruysse Ruxandra Aelenei Thijs de Jong Fabian Küster Gerard Bruil Skadi Tirpak Shelley Bontje Teije Gorris Carolina Ramos Fallu Brett Petzer Ruben Loendersloot Maud de Vries Meredith Glaser and many more! Unified Representation for All Mountain Bikers in Austria At the IMBA Europe Summit, the keynote "4 pillars of a MTB strategy for Austria" highlighted the essential role of community in the mountain biking strategy for Austria. The "Community" pillar focuses on creating a strong, united, and representative mountain biking community. By consolidating all mountain bike clubs under the umbrella of "IMBA-Austria", we not only leverage synergies but also strengthen our advocacy efforts. A central contact point is established, serving as a communication hub, coordinating events and initiatives, and amplifying the community's voice to policymakers and the public. Our goal is to establish a representation for all mountain bikers in Austria, regardless of skill level or age, from children to grandparents. A special focus of our strategy is on professional training for local trail builders, conducted within the framework of the DIRTT.eu Project and the ITRS (International Trail Rating System). This international training initiative aims to enhance local trail building skills, thereby creating sustainable and safer mountain bike trails right at our doorstep. #MTBCommunity #SustainableTrails #IMBAEurope #mtbkongress #thinkausterity #thinknature

61 BITZER employees at the Sindelfingen and Rottenburg sites, Germany, took part in this year's city cycling event "Stadtradeln" and cycled a great many everyday journeys in a climate-friendly way over a period of 21 days in June and July. Every kilometre counts. We at BITZER are pleased about so much commitment for a good climate! According to a comparison of modes of transport by the German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt – UBA), cycling and walking can save around 140 g of greenhouse gas emissions per person-kilometre compared to private cars. Air pollutants that are harmful to health can also be reduced by more cycling. #NextGenCooling #sustainability #green #oneteam #bettertogether

Worth remembering that this type of infrastructure change takes time. The challenge for us in Wales is to learn lessons from as many places as possible to help us reduce that time.
The Netherlands wasn't always known as a biking country. In the past 20 years, the Netherlands has doubled the length of its separated cycle path network, which stretches 35,000 km across the country. Map source: vividmaps.com

For such a small country, the number of ultra-distance events (and the entire bikepacking scene) is rather spectacular in Czechia. See for yourself: ● 1000 Miles Adventure Across (former) Czecho-Slovakia; ● Race Around the Republic; ● Bohemian Border Bash; ● Race Across Czechia; ● Bohemia Divide; ● Moravia Divide; ● Loudání, with its official sub-title literally 'Dragging oneself and one's bike across the landscape at a sluggish pace', as that's precisely what it is about, I kid you not! One of the organizers' disclaimers is "Be prepared to push and carry your bike all the way" (we're talking hundreds of kilometres here) 😀; and many more. How is that, you might be asking? Let's explore: - Cycling is the most favourite sport in terms of practice (not spectating); - Very diverse landscapes on a relatively small area; the next POI is never really far and it's always pretty easy to find a bed or a shelter, a warm meal, a spot to re-supply; - One of the safest countries in the world and lands to roam freely with a right of passage and bivouac almost wherever you drop dead. So get Friday afternoon cozy and dive into one of the testimonies recently shared at #bikepacking . com #cycling #cyclinglife #cyclinguists https://lnkd.in/d8D8SCqA
