The rapid ascent of SpaceX, Elon Musk's space venture, is underscored by its collaboration with the US military. The launch of Starshield, the military-focused counterpart to Starlink, not only solidifies SpaceX's commitment but also addresses the potential vulnerability of Starlink, which has recently achieved breakeven cash flow and reached a valuation of $150 billion. With over 4,400 operational satellites, Starlink's importance in modern warfare, exemplified during the conflict in Ukraine, has led to the introduction of the Starshield program, reflecting SpaceX's awareness of Starlink's strategic significance and the need to address security concerns, even as it becomes a global juggernaut in satellite-based internet services. #spacex #starlink #satelitetechnology #elonmusk #inovationinspace #spacetech

PANEL ON ECONOMIC SECURITY Hervé Derrey highlighted the critical time for EU industry and the need to reinvent the model around three recommendations: - space and satellites as an enabler for defense and security : unlock the potential! - prepare a technological roadmap for sovereignty, especially for strategic components including a "space chips act" ; - be at the foreront of policy through the EU space law and ensure a level playing field for european industry. The next MFF has to consolidate the current flagships but also explore new components and techologies such as quantum for telecoms, Navwar applications, multisensors for earth observation and in orbit servicing. SpaceX has signed a deal to launch up to four of Europe's flagship navigation and secure communications satellites into orbit, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. The European Commission, the European Union's executive arm, along with EU member states, must still give final approval for the deal, the report added, citing officials. SpaceX and the European Space Agency recently signed an agreement for two launches next year, each carrying two Galileo satellites, Javier Benedicto, the agency's director of navigation told the Journal. 🔗 to full story in comments below 👇 #SpaceX #privateequity #alternativeinvestments #HUDSONPOINT

The last #Ariane5 rocket was launched on 5th July. It marks the end of an era. Its successor, the #Ariane6 will make its debut in 2024, if everything goes according to plan. This means that in the meantime, Europe is out of launch vehicles and there is no possibility of launching satellites into #space, i.e. the planned #IRISS constellation coming soon. Therefore, I asked the Commission during a hearing how they are planning to resolve this issue. The answer: microlauncher! Catherine KAVVADA confirmed that the EU institutions recognise the need to act swiftly to give Europe independent access to space, and is convinced that #microlaunchers will play an essential role in the realisation of EU space projects in the near future. #EUspace #spacenews #nienass #microlauncher #satellite

Which Companies Own the Most Satellites? Approximately 7,000 satellites orbit Earth, vital for communication, navigation, and research. #SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, dominates with 50% of global #satellites, completing 62 missions last year. #OneWeb Satellites, backed by the UK government, ranks second. Amazon's Project #Kuiper plans to deploy 3,236 satellites by 2029, challenging #SpaceX. The U.S. leads in total satellites, spending $62 billion in 2022, far exceeding China. With one in three people worldwide lacking internet access, satellite demand is set to quadruple over the next decade, offering ample opportunities for private space companies. 🛰 https://lnkd.in/ey2Y3ncm #Satellites #SpaceTech #SpaceRace #LinkedIn#satellites #spaceX

In an unexpected move, Amazon has partnered with rival SpaceX to launch three of its Kuiper internet satellites into orbit. The Falcon 9 launches are scheduled to commence in mid-2025, marking a surprising collaboration between two leading competitors in the satellite internet industry. SpaceX's Starlink constellation currently comprises approximately 5,000 satellites providing internet services from low-Earth orbit, while Amazon's Project Kuiper has yet to deploy any operational satellites. This partnership highlights the increasingly dynamic nature of the satellite internet landscape, where companies are willing to cooperate despite their competitive stance to accelerate their advancements in this rapidly evolving field. https://smashi.tv/en #space #spacex
