PANEL ON ECONOMIC SECURITY Hervé Derrey highlighted the critical time for EU industry and the need to reinvent the model around three recommendations: - space and satellites as an enabler for defense and security : unlock the potential! - prepare a technological roadmap for sovereignty, especially for strategic components including a "space chips act" ; - be at the foreront of policy through the EU space law and ensure a level playing field for european industry. The next MFF has to consolidate the current flagships but also explore new components and techologies such as quantum for telecoms, Navwar applications, multisensors for earth observation and in orbit servicing. SpaceX has signed a deal to launch up to four of Europe's flagship navigation and secure communications satellites into orbit, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. The European Commission, the European Union's executive arm, along with EU member states, must still give final approval for the deal, the report added, citing officials. The last #Ariane5 rocket was launched on 5th July. It marks the end of an era. Its successor, the #Ariane6 will make its debut in 2024, if everything goes according to plan. This means that in the meantime, Europe is out of launch vehicles and there is no possibility of launching satellites into #space, i.e. the planned #IRISS constellation coming soon.   Therefore, I asked the Commission during a hearing how they are planning to resolve this issue. The answer: microlauncher! Catherine KAVVADA confirmed that the EU institutions recognise the need to act swiftly to give Europe independent access to space, and is convinced that #microlaunchers will play an essential role in the realisation of EU space projects in the near future. #EUspace #spacenews #nienass #microlauncher #satellite

In an unexpected move, Amazon has partnered with rival SpaceX to launch three of its Kuiper internet satellites into orbit. The Falcon 9 launches are scheduled to commence in mid-2025, marking a surprising collaboration between two leading competitors in the satellite internet industry. SpaceX's Starlink constellation currently comprises approximately 5,000 satellites providing internet services from low-Earth orbit, while Amazon's Project Kuiper has yet to deploy any operational satellites. Hughes Network System announced its #JUPITER™ 3 ultra-high-density #satellite has successfully #deployed its #solar #arrays and #antennas, and the spacecraft has passed readiness testing by the manufacturer, Maxar Space Systems. #Hughes is now testing the satellite communications with #ground #equipment, which is the final step before initiating broadband services for customers such as airlines, corporations, governments, and consumers of its popular HughesNet service. The JUPITER 3 satellite will bring over 500 Gbps of additional broadband capacity across North and South America. "Reaching this milestone demonstrates the engineering excellence and innovation our team infused into this satellite," said Hamid Akhavan, CEO, EchoStar. "As the largest commercial satellite ever built, JUPITER 3 will double the capacity of our fleet serving more customers who live beyond the reach of cable and fiber internet by providing ubiquitous connectivity throughout the Americas.
