"Neurodiversity is about all of us", according to writer/speaker Saskia Schepers. She strongly believes in the competitive advantage of neurodiversity in the workplace. In her eye-opening nominated book "When all minds thrive" she provides neurodivergent individuals with a fresh perspective on their capabilities and equips their environment with the tools to fully leverage them. The Brunel Foundation organized an interactive and inspirational session with Saskia, leaving us behind with lots of food for thought. Thank you for your personal approach. It sparked open, valuable conversations among our colleagues that, for sure, will resonate for a long time!

An interactive workshop designed specifically for women who know they are here for more, and want to master the art of captivating communication. In this session, they’ll learn the biggest obstacle to getting attention today, and harness the time-honoured power of curiosity to catch and keep your audience's attention in a totally new way, with integrity. The 3 Key Takeaways of the workshop are; Curiosity as Your Bestie: Discover why curiosity is your ultimate tool to draw and maintain audience interest. Avoiding the Open Loop Pitfall: Learn the common mistake of leaving loops open and how it leads to audience dissatisfaction. Building Trust with Cognitive Closure: Understand how simple it is to nurture trust. I'll be teaching Julie's audience how to elevate their presentations, engage the audience, and leave a lasting impression in a world full of distractions. I love bringing loops into my broader work as loops are everywhere! (That's how our mind works) Please feel free to reach out if you would like a masterclass or workshop for your community or workplace.

Yesterday was World Braille Day, marking the birth of Louis Braille, who invented the Braille reading and writing system in 1824. It got me reflecting on how this remarkable innovation helped open the doors to accessibility and empowerment in the workplace. As someone passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion, I'm inspired by the progress Braille represents. Simple raised dots gave the blind and visually impaired access to the written word, opening up educational and professional opportunities. Braille transcription enables blind employees to interpret everything from signage and labels to meeting notes and presentations. Paired with screen reader technology, it provides access to computer systems for collaboration and communication. By removing barriers, Braille allows professionals to perform at their highest level. While technology has continued to advance access, Braille still remains essential in many workplaces; let yesterday be a daily reminder that with thoughtful adaptations, we can create environments where everyone thrives based on merit, not circumstance. Instead of just commemorating yesterday's World Braille Day, let's rededicate ourselves to building workplaces defined by ability, not disability. We as HR thought leaders/DEI practitioners, owe it to our people and the business to design a workplace that is brave enough to say "all of us" in principle AND in practice; where ingenuity removes barriers so all talent can rise. Where “inclusion” means empowering people of ALL abilities to bring their whole, authentic selves to work. That is the spirit of Braille, and the future of work I want to see. ************************ Heads up! Bold, Brave, Insightful and Perceptive; that's my POV about all things HR/DEI + OD/Employee Experience. People, Culture + Talent is my niche and driving transformation is my passion. When not penning my thoughts, my superpowers are translating fuzzy concepts into concrete change, finding clarity in ambiguity, and boldly challenging the status quo when it's not serving people. Fancy a coffee to chat about how we can co-create the future of work we want to see in the world. The brave new workplace awaits! #hire4higher #HRtransformation #employeeexperience #talentstrategy #organizationaleffectiveness #DEI

Celebrating National World Voice Day: Empowering Young People On National World Voice Day, let's reflect on the significance of giving young people a voice in their own lives. At Athena Care, we implement this philosophy in our everyday practices. Our approach is rooted in theories such as Self-Determination Theory (SDT), which highlights the importance of autonomy and self-expression in promoting well-being and resilience. By empowering young people to voice their thoughts and ideas, we foster a sense of agency and ownership over their lives, aligning with the principles of SDT. Our young people actively participate in meetings, provide input in staff interviews, and make daily choices with the guidance of our supportive staff. They even hold their own board meetings through our Young People's Advisory Board, embodying the principles of participation and empowerment advocated by theorists like Roger Hart and Sherry Arnstein. By incorporating these theories into our everyday practices, we create opportunities for meaningful engagement and collaboration, fostering a culture of inclusivity, respect, and mutual understanding. Today, let's reaffirm our commitment to promoting understanding, empathy, and active listening, empowering young people to become confident, resilient individuals who are equipped to navigate life's challenges with courage and conviction. #NationalWorldVoiceDay #YouthEmpowerment #SelfDeterminationTheory #Participation #Empowerment #AthenaCare

Guiding people & organizations to meet the realities of today | Guiding Council for Either/org | Community + Organizational Designer
✨ Weekly Inspiration and Belonging Practice ✨ This afternoon I got the pleasure to learn from Ashley Gallegos at the Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley on how to build belonging when we gather. More reflections coming soon, just wanted to share a resource that stood out to me on how to create a weekly belonging practice. I especially love the provocations below: ❓ How do I welcome my own and others' agency? ❓How do I welcome shared power? ❓How do I welcome multiple voices? ❓How do I welcome shared responsibility? ❓What is your process for ensuring that this is resonant, meaningful and accountable? Ashley says you should consider taking a deeper look at your outreach materials, the look/feel/sound of the space, accessibility of the space, and of staff to folks entering the space, and who is in the room. Here's a link to their practice overview: https://lnkd.in/eeZBT7Dh

Psychological safety is not about sanitizing every space and interaction but rather about cultivating an environment of nonviolence within and together. It is about embracing the discomfort inherent in the messy and ambiguous journey of being human. Only from this place can we cultivate the openness—both in heart and mind— necessary to develop the resilience to bridge divides and act in the world with the unwavering determination required to uphold our shared, fundamental drive for well-being, regardless of our differences. This way, we can authentically foster a sense of belonging and prevent ourselves from becoming what we seek to dismantle. Embarking on this path requires courage to engage in meaningful and challenging conversations. That is why, at InterWoven Human Potential, we are so excited to join the remarkable group of individuals that Denise Young, from Tiger's Eye Advisory Group Ltd. has brought together. A few simple strategies and tactics can immediately enrich the health of your business network. Learn how to amplify the strength of your professional community and build truly meaningful connections that will serve you well throughout your career. Join me for Athena's exciting new program on May 9th: Road to Allyship - Journey from Novice to Advocate Warren Buffett points out that if we do not fully embrace women in our businesses then we are leaving half of our potential unutilized. The same goes for building meaningful connections and strong relationships with our colleagues. Why leave half of your team on the bench? Brene Brown says that building meaningful connections requires developing grounded confidence, practicing the courage to walk alongside, and practicing story stewardship. In Athena's unique and powerful program we will hear first hand how these practices unfolded for courageous men, no different than you and I, who recently embarked on an intentional Road to Allyship. These courageous men will share their experiences - what worked, what didn't, what reciprocal benefits they have observed, and what surprised them most about the process of cultivating meaningful connections with their female colleagues. One of the things that most surprised and impressed me as I have begun to intentionally embrace meaningful connections with my female colleagues is how frequently the support I have offered is reflected back to me in some meaningful way. What has surprised or impressed you in your journey to embrace all of the potential in your professional network?

This video from Canal180, part of the series on the Bauhaus of the Seas Sails project starts a series of interviews ("drop, ripple, wave") between consortium partner members and experts discussing the concepts, aspirations, and goals behind each Bauhaus of the Seas Sails drop. Under the "drop, ripple, wave metaphor", drops are focused and localized initiatives developed at the territorial level, which aim to generate a ripple effect. My interview with Klaas Kuitenbrouwer is about the Zoöp model, a novel organizational model for cooperation between human and non-human life that safeguards the interests of all zoë (Greek for ‘life’). The Zoöp model makes the interests of nonhuman life part of organizational decision-making. You can watch the episode on Canal180 YouTube channel https://lnkd.in/dp7ArcCr
