🎮 🚀 Last Saturday, our Kungens Kurva meeting place in Stockholm was the place to be as we partnered with the Svenska E-sportförbundet (Swedish E-sports Federation) for a day of incredible gaming excitement! People stepped into the world of esports, played the latest games, and learned from real pros like "Jaegarn" (Fredrik Kempf) and "OneHandedOnly" (Robin Andersson). What we’ve experienced together this Saturday – but also last Thursday when we invited the public to play Rocket League IRL at Stockholm Central Station - really is a testimony of how gaming can strengthen relationships. We commissioned a survey and asked more than 1,000 Swedes about their relationships with computer and video games. As it turns out, 43% of respondents claim that games can promote social interactions. And 41% among those who play computer and video games said that gaming has helped them make new friends or strengthen existing friendships. This is one of the main reasons behind us embracing Esports. We wanted this event to reflect our ambition around esports and to embrace the gaming community as a catalyst for our transformation from shopping malls into vibrant hubs for meaningful connection, bringing something truly extraordinary to the lives of the many people. People gathered with their loved ones and joined us for an action-packed day. Only 2% of the entire player base on Steam unlocked this achievement, which shows how tough the game can really be. But would Fall Guys also work in an actual competitive environment? 🏆Last weekend I attended the finals of the German corporate league Die Werksliga where teams battled it out on the virtual realms of Rocket League, League of Legends and well, Fall Guys. While some may argue that Fall Guys isn't a top esports title or might not even be considered as one, I firmly believe that it holds a lot of potential when it comes to its competitive sphere: 🤼Fall Guys' simple yet captivating gameplay mechanics (anyone remembering Takeshi’s Castle?) make it easy for players of all skill levels to pick up and enjoy. This accessibility is key for attracting a broad audience to competitive gaming, fostering inclusivity and diversity within the esports community. ❇Beyond its competitive elements, the game with running and jumping beans is first and foremost a source of pure, unadulterated fun. It's fun to play and fun to watch. Let me tell you, the audience on-site at XPERION Germany in Cologne was hooked during the final rounds of the game. 🤔While Fall Guys may appear lighthearted on the surface, beneath its colorful visuals lies a surprising depth of strategy and skill. That's probably why I failed to unlock this rare achievement - the best run I had was 4 wins in a row... But despite all these facts, we do see a slowly decreasing player base after its peak during the pandemic and the developer still hasn't managed to add a proper observer mode. However, for organizations and companies where not everyone is a hardcore gamer, Fall Guys the perfect choice for a little competition. 🎮 In celebration of World Esports Day happening this weekend, our esports players at Virtuos joined us in a virtual fireside session to share stories and anecdotes from their competitive days! Many colleagues participating in the Zoom session asked their burning questions, ranging from whether having good peripherals matter to the pre-game rituals that they follow religiously. When asked about how their experience as esports players has impacted the way they approached work, Hao LE Thanh, our Art Producer at Glass Egg - a Virtuos Studio said, "Since PUBG is a collaborative game, the way we play in a team sounds a little like how we collaborate on projects in production. I think I’ve become a really good team player – I support my colleagues here, listen to them, and share whatever knowledge I have in order for the project to succeed." Partnerships Developer and former professional FIFA player Wilson Tan Kit Lee shared that going through losses in his past competitions has helped build his mental strength and resilience. "I think that mentality has also translated into my work life. Every time I make mistakes, I don’t accept them as it is, and I try to correct them. It builds up resilience over time, and now I feel that whatever it is, I can always correct it, as long as I’m open to accepting that flaws do exist," he said. Extron is Esports. Very proud to be a part of this initiative, Army West Point Esports and Extron. How do you solve problems? In the early years of the program, response to video sources was one dimensional. Over time capability became important as we wanted to match production performance with other programs while making it our own. This led to each source being an independent component which is then collected via a capture card or some sort of input control. Now with Extron we can import 16 independent sources to one Matrix and output to 16 destinations and any combination of them all....do the math. All of which are managed via the @Extron 17-inch touch screen and two 10-inch touch screens positioned throughout for ease of use as well as a web-based control on a remote tablet. How does it relate to Cadet learning? Army West Point Esports players and production team members now have real world applications on dynamic audio and video production systems and gain an understanding of how these systems can be a solution for future mission planning and briefing environments.
