Week 1 complete ✅ This past week I started my summer internship at Microsoft as an Explore intern on the Real Time Communication team. I'm eager to learn from such talented colleagues and contribute to innovative projects. I want to give a shout-out to Hong Sodoma, and the rest of the team for being so kind and welcoming! There are a few things that I have taken away that I thought to share: 1.) Navigating a professional landscape let alone a new environment can be difficult. As someone coming from a first-generational background so much is changing. Yet that makes it even equally important to make use of the resources around you. Setting up 1 on 1 ☕️ conversations has gone a long way! 2.) Critical thinking shows up in more places than just a project. For me, 8 hours of work simply isn't enough time to hit ambitious goals routinely. I really have had to lean on thoughtful reflection to evaluate the usefulness of such goals. Crazily enough, approaching situations with no right answer can be thought of similarly 🫨. Challenges and growth await this summer and I can't wait to see how this summer shapes out to be! #intern #microsoft #firstGen #newStart

I'm actually tired of these posts that require you to comment down your email or #interested ⚠️ Why people don't understand that no company offers internships/jobs by publicly asking you out for emails. ☕ Look, if a company is actually hiring, don't you think they will provide you a registration link or an email to drop down your Resume? 🤔 I'm just posting this to inform my connections, as I've seen many people commenting down #interested or dropping below their emails ⚠️Beware of these scams, these are just attention grabbing techniques to increase their post's reach. They might also use your data for various unwanted purposes... Just check the post below it's the best thing I came across today 😭😂 read the caption and check the comments. People don't even bother reading the caption and start to drop down their personal emails ❌ Be safe, peace out! ✨

In general, what Morning Brew is doing in the digital news realm is what I believe digital reporting is turning into. Podcast, down-to-earth style conversations like this talking about certain topics and news. Sometimes even making it relevant by making memes and presenting it in a humorous way. Their Gen Z and Millennial audience numbers are insane, and they speak to how successful this company is becoming. This isn't to downplay the more traditional sense of how newsrooms connect with audiences online, but expanding your portfolio of posts to include what younger audiences can relate to is what will give you an edge and the numbers you want.

The one tip I always say helped me be different: experiences outside of the classroom. Trust me. Your employers will care a lot more about what you've learned, what you've overcome, & how you can apply it VS the grades on your transcript. Here is are 3 take trends of this generation I am seeing: 1) They are hard working, inquisitive and willing to step into unknown areas WHEN we are willing to give them the opportunity. 2) Unlike many, they prefer working in the office and being around people. Something to keep in mind as we consider our offices. 3) They are hungry for feedback and direction. They are willing to take the feedback and change their approach. Excited! 🔥 Looking back at the crazy summer of 2020, when I was a part of the 1st batch of virtual interns at Microsoft (thanks to Covid)... To today, where I'm gearing up to mentor my 5th intern over the course of 3 years at Microsoft...it does feel surreal. Being on both sides has taught me a bunch of valuable skills...
