Generative AI has garnered an incredible amount of attention for its potential and risks, yet there remains ambiguity surrounding its true capabilities and limitations. One is the significant energy consumption and environmental impact associated with training and operating these advanced models. This raises serious concerns about sustainability in AI development amidst global warming efforts. The reliability of AI in technical tasks like interpreting medical X-rays is inconsistent, emphasizing the technology's inability to replace human judgment in critical precision tasks. Similarly, back-office AI, while promising process efficiency, exhibits unpredictable outcomes that necessitate human oversight due to operational and ethical challenges. Representational AI, known for creating human-like content, faces reliability issues, raising concerns about misinformation, ethical dilemmas, and the proliferation of deepfakes. Developers are grappling with the unpredictable outcomes of AI, but in the arena of e-commerce, generative AI seems to have a bright future indeed. My company (renovai) relies on AI for its business, and our customers have found it immensely useful, so I remain optimistic, and there's clearly a place for generative AI in commerce. However, as the debate on AI's future continues, it's crucial to approach its development with caution and critical thinking, scrutinizing both the promises and pitfalls of this complex and uncertain field. #AI #GenerativeAI #ArtificialIntelligence #Technology #Ethics #Sustainability #Deepfakes #Innovation #FutureOfWork

Love your thoughts Brad Anderson! No doubt there is an environmental concern with AI that not a lot of people know about. I think that's the actual cost of humans not doing their tasks themselves. We need to have some regulations on the use of AI in order to mitigate such risks so that we do more benefit than harming the environment around us.

It’s great to see how AI is used in diverse industries. What are your thoughts on companies that feel AI is a threat and blocks everything AI related?

Checked out Renovai, very cool stuff.

Yes and yes! We are here for the responsible use of AI. E&S Solutions has introduced and ‘entry level’ AI product for E&S practitioners to support accessing large scale decentralised data. Educating on the types of AI, keeping the human in the loop and making sure that concerns around transparency and ethics are addressed are key to progress with AI in the future.
