When Lewis Hamilton joined the team yesterday in Brackley to celebrate his ninth (yes, ninth) British Grand Prix win, we had two other special guests in the house.
First, the wonderful British Grand Prix trophy that he has lifted on the podium each time he has won the race - and that he's clutching proudly in this picture. A trophy so iconic that it indirectly prompted F1 to work on the quality of all its silverware, after Lewis made a few disparaging remarks about some of the annual efforts a few years back!
But second, the eagle-eyed among you will have noticed that there are more trophies in the room, than Lewis has had British GP wins. And that's because, thanks to the support of Motorsport UK, the Royal Automobile Club and our brilliant team-mates in our Heritage team (yes, that's you Toby Norrell among others), we gathered yesterday all ten British Grand Prix winning trophies that have been won by Mercedes-Benz drivers. That's eight for Lewis, one for Nico in 2013, and finally the very beautiful trophy in the middle - which was held aloft by Stirling Moss at Aintree in 1955.
Sir Stirling and Sir Lewis may not always have seen eye to eye on every topic - especially once an innocent out-of-context quote had been dropped in a press conference on a race weekend - but there was always deep mutual respect whenever they met. And watching them drive side by side on the Monza banking in 2015 was truly special, with Lewis refusing to put on a modern helmet so he could feel the wind in his hair, and get a true experience of what the cars were like to drive!
While the functional elegance of the Brackley race bays may seem a world away from the ordered workshops of Untertürkheim in the 1950s, the golden thread of team spirit and competitive drive that connects them both is alive and well. And little moments like this remind us how lucky we are to work for a company like Mercedes-Benz AG that not only possesses remarkable heritage but is also passionately proud of it - and makes it the foundation for an even brighter future.
Finally, thank you to Rob Halloway for the intros, Patrik Gottwick for scouring the cupboards in Stuttgart, Daniel Smith from Motorsport UK for your support, and to Jeremy Vaughan and Charlie McCreery at Royal Automobile Club for springing into action to make it possible to welcome that 1955 gem to Brackley!
