𝗟𝗲𝘁'𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆… One hundred hours? Five hundred hours? A thousand maybe? How much time do you think it takes to determine where and how a wind turbine for an offshore wind farm can be installed or how and along which route across the seabed the (export) cables can be buried? Admittedly, it's not an easy task. That's why we'd like to tell you about it using a recent example.    In the Polish section of the Baltic Sea, our colleagues at Gardline carried out the necessary surveys prior to the realization of Ocean Wind’s offshore wind farm BC-Wind. With four specialist survey vessels Ocean Observer, Ocean Vantage, Horizon Geobay and the Horizon Geodiscovery, many measurements and analyses were carried out at the turbine locations and along the route of the future inter-array and export cables. The Ocean Observer conducted bathymetric and geophysical surveys to determine the exact water depth, map the shape of the seabed and characterise the sub-seabed geology at planned locations for the cables, wind turbine generators and associated foundations. Thereafter, the Ocean Observer conducted a shallow geotechnical survey along the export cable route to measure soil conditions for cable burial. The other three vessels were operating in the offshore wind farm array area focussing on gathering data for the design of the wind turbine generator foundations. This deep geotechnical site investigation is necessary to exactly determine the soil characteristics and soil layers. This crucial information is then used to determine what foundation type and size will be needed to support a wind turbine reaching more than 200 meters above the sea surface weighing thousands of tons.    The total duration of this offshore survey? More than 8,000 hours. So let’s call it a thorough job...   #boskalis #creatingnewhorizons #survey #bcwind #poland #gardline #horizongeosciences #oceanobserver #oceanvantage #horizongeobay #horizongeodiscovery #offshorewind #advancingtheenergytransition

Great example of the iceberg principle, for the 10% visible on the surface, so much more work goes on behind the scenes. Succes' and Stay safe Boskalis

A thorough job indeed! So great to see our fleet hard at work! 💪🏻

I think nuclear power plants are the way to go. If you consider amount of CO2 burned and steel produced and used for a wind farm……….and length of the cables and time spent on building all these up …….all 3 stages of Hornsea wind warm combined will be as powerful as nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine.
