💡 The increase in awareness for hull cleaning of ships is encouraging. Biofouling on ship hulls can cause an approx. 10% increase in fuel consumption due to drag. In addition, it is one of the key sources for the transfer of invasive aquatic species. Coupled with slow-steaming, proper biofouling management is a low-hanging fruit for the shipping industry to reduce their footprint and decarbonize as they await new propulsion technologies and competitive green fuel sources. Moreover, the implementation of EU ETS quotas in the maritime sector from 2024 will magnify the importance of these measures. NRP Zero AS's portfolio company C-LEANSHIP has specialized in ROV hull cleaning with biofouling collection for many years and has developed a global position through its hubs in Singapore, Korea and Belgium. We have a strong position with major container and car carrier operators which have fixed trading patterns and short port calls and are expanding to other shipping segments. 💙More exciting news: The first flat oyster settlement on our ReefBooster!💙 Despite being smaller than the nail of your finger, these tiny flat oysters have brought enormous smiles to our faces! In our biosecure TinyOceans, the first oyster larvae recently settled on our ReefBooster. For the next few weeks, the ‘inhabited’ ReefBoosters will remain in our cultivation systems. Following this period, they will be released into the Port of Rotterdam as part of our ongoing pilot project, BOOST.  This milestone marks a significant achievement for the BOOST project, as we strive to restore the flat oyster population in the North Sea on a large scale. 🌊 Keen to learn more about our exciting pilot project? It is time for our first pilot site presentation! ⏰ 💧 The IJsselmeer is characteristically the largest freshwater area in Western Europe, as well as the largest freshwater reservoir in the Netherlands.   ⚓ It played a crucial role in the economic life of the Netherlands, allowing this country to develop important fishing and trading activities that played a decisive part in its posterity. Interesting development! 🙌 Ørsted and Van Oord, as part of their Ocean Health initiative, plan to install innovative droppable oyster structures at the Borssele 1&2 offshore wind farm in the Netherlands. This initiative aims to introduce European flat oysters and enhance biodiversity within the wind farm. ♻️ The droppable oyster structures, designed and tested by Van Oord and Delft University of Technology, provide an affordable and manual deployment method for oyster broodstock. The offshore wind farm's hard substrate and undisturbed seabed make it an ideal location for restoring the flat oyster population in the North Sea. This novel deployment method, utilizing small vessels, will be implemented at Borssele 1&2 starting in 2024, marking a step towards sustainable energy with positive impacts on climate and biodiversity. 🌟 #offshorewindenergy #offshorewind #renewableenergy
