The real humanity would be the world to stop discarding Nuclear waste/chemical trash/ solid plastic trash in the ocean. I have been in ocean most of my life between the years of a child, my military years, later in middle age. It is so sad what has been done to our earyh all in the name of "build it bigger and better for more money." I am not a "Stop oil" kind of guy in any way as I understand it is unrealistic. But I am starting to understand why people become so desperate in their views and attitudes.
I think its wonderful people and conservations doing what they can to make a change and to assist nature and animals in trouble like this video.......... it does however get me to thinking we all see these videos we do a like and a share and congratulate people on a good job!
BUT ........... how many of those same people liking a nice video and sharing and goshing over the travesty of it all actually stop and think about why this is happening and what changes can you make to make a difference? We need to make the difference.
We wouldn't need charities and organisations like this is if we all stopped and thought about our actions, granted a lot of this is too late as its already happening.
We need to change our attitude and ways of thinking, everything we do has an impact on all of us, WE, myself included need to take a look at what we are doing and make changes, even if they are the smallest of changes it needs to happen and soon.
Some say its too late, but it's never too late to make a change, we have no one to blame but ourselves.

This is the reality of ocean plastics. It's not straws, it's not water bottles (however unsightly they are). The biggest problem by far is discarded fishing nets, ropes, etc.
By volume, discarded nets etc. make up 20-30% of ocean plastics, and are by far the most damaging.
Of the unsightly land sourced plastics, the VAST majority comes from Asia (81%).
How do we fix this?
I don't know for sure - I'm not an expert, but considering incentives are generally the best way to guide behaviour, then perhaps paying people to provide waste plastic, which can then be burnt in high temperature furnaces and use that energy to generate electricity to support the local economy, because the reality is that however much we'd like to kid ourselves, waste plastic is generally not recyclable for a myriad of reasons.
To find the solution, first we must understand the problem so here's some data to ponder.

Long story short - the toddler straw in your over-sweetened mega-venti quad shot decaf soy almond frappaccino isn't the problem, and the answer isn't toxic paper straws - that i'm sure of.

Captain Nigel Marrison, Founder and CEO of Blue ESG is delighted to join the UN SDG - (United Nations Sustainable Development Goals) working group in collaboration with the Balearic Marine Cluster to capitalise on the benchmark data already captured in the ‘Balearic Marine Cluster SDG Report’ in order to create a roadmap and measurable progress to improve SDG related impact for the nautical sector in the Balearic Islands.
This initiative marks a significant step for the Balearic Marine sector to implement credible and tangible innovate solutions to achieve sustained and impactful development, and distinguish the Balearic Islands as a global leader in the leisure marine sector.
The first phase of working group is to establish the ‘SDG hierarchy’, identifying which goals are most important to us as a sector, and where we can have positive impact.
Phase 1 will determine the goals, metrics, and identify ‘low hanging fruit’ and ‘easy wins’ to facilitate measured progress.
More news and updates to follow.

The Blue Prosperity Leaders Forum brought together global leaders ahead of the Our Ocean Conference in Athens, Greece, to discuss pathways to successfully advancing sustainable ocean management. Hosted by the Waitt Institute and the U.S. State Department, the Leaders Forum spurred engaging discussions on strategies to protect 30% of the global ocean by 2030.
This Leaders Forum provides a knowledge-sharing platform for island nations striving to manage marine resources sustainably, fostering economic growth and resilience. Members include representatives from Bermuda, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Maldives, Samoa, Tonga, and Vanuatu. Aligned with the Our Ocean Conference’s theme, “An Ocean of Potential,” these governments are spearheading the advancement and implementation of marine protection commitments worldwide.
The dialogue was enriched by representatives from National Geographic Pristine Seas, Oceano Azul Foundation, Blue Nature Alliance, Oceans 5, Dynamic Planet, Conservation International, and youth delegates from the Federated States of Micronesia and Portugal.

To the start of a beautiful and sustainable journey between Lucrin Mauritius and APEIM 🔜
Building on the 3 pillars of Social, Environmental and Economic.
"We call for a sea where biodiversity flourishes.
Central to this transformation are marine #protectedareas, instrumental in conserving #biodiversity, aiding #ecosystem recovery and building #resilience.
These areas are cornerstones for strategies that extend beyond preservation to include active #restoration and #sustainablemanagement.
MPAs provide safe havens for #marinelife, showcasing what a thriving ecosystem can look like and inspiring broader #conservation efforts.
These efforts are crucial for maintaining the unique biodiversity of the sea.
We are not just hoping for a better future, we are creating it."
Not bad for an #ai generated video drawing upon the knowledge and aspirations of #balticsea stakeholders who gathered last week in #finland to discuss how we can have more, better marine protected areas.
I am grateful and continually inspired to participate in discussions with such a dedicated and passionate community in the Baltic Sea region and beyond, who have an unwavering focus on #marineprotection. Big thanks to all colleagues, collaborators from MPA Europe Project's sister projects PROTECT BALTIC and MSP4BIO, and enthusiastic #stakeholders for your interest and dedication.
