Wireless sensing and locating. Another interesting weekend read, published by MIT on the latest progress in WIFI-Sensing of vital signals and micro-locating of body movements (link in the comments) The authors highlight the usage of AI to interpret how wireless waves scatter or fade, to detect walking patterns or sensing through walls. It is impressive to see the latest progress in all wireless technologies, from Ultra-Wideband (UWB) for presence detection in cars, to radar used to ensure safety in industrial sites, were humans co-work with robots. Within the omlox ecosystem, we try to benefit from all those developments. Given our roots, we do have a strong footprint in UWB, but nowadays our ecosystem is also comprised of technology providers in other wireless technologies (like WIFI, BLE or Radar), light (Lidar) or even ultrasound. Radar sensing solutions are increasingly used for active safety systems and it is likely they will be incorporated into future safety regulation for light vehicles. The technology is also evolving towards 4D imaging with improved resolution and object detection supported by AI. ARPRO 5195 RR has been specifically developed to reduce the electromagnetic interference between sensors. 5G mobile networks make outdoor collaborative robot operations possible. However, limited battery life of robots hinders the execution of mission-critical tasks like simultaneous localization and mapping of unexplored environments. To address this, our novel orchestration approach, OROS, introduces energy-saving enhancements for Robot Operating System (ROS) and 5G resources. By jointly optimizing robotic navigation and sensing and infrastructure resources, OROS significantly improves energy consumption and task completion time of 5G-enabled robots.
