Handover ceremony: together for low-carbon value chains. 🤝🚀 During today's handover ceremony held in Oslo and in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid, representatives from key industrial stakeholders, Pascal De Buck, Geert Van Poelvoorde, Cedric de Vicq and Jacques Vandermeiren, formally presented the Oslo declaration on low-carbon value chains to Belgian policy makers, Minister-President of Flanders Jan Jambon, Walloon Minister of Energy Philippe Henry, Brussels state secretary Ans Persoons, Minister of Energy Tinne Van der Straeten, Minister of Justice Paul Van Tigchelt and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadja Lahbib. 📜 As we work toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, overcoming decarbonisation challenges while maintaining international competitiveness is crucial for industry. Carbon Capture, Transport, Usage and Storage (CCUS), aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions by capturing emissions from sources like industrial processes and power plants, will play a critical role in meeting this challenge. Industry's flagship decarbonisation projects drive economic growth and employment, but targeted policy instruments at all levels are essential for their realisation in Belgium. Collaboration among all stakeholders is vital to succeed. Therefore, with this declaration the industrials stakeholders underline the importance of the technology of CCUS and ask policymakers to set up targeted policy instruments. 🌿🌍 Air Liquide ArcelorMittal BASF Carmeuse ENGIE Equinor ExxonMobil Heidelberg Materials Holcim INEOS Lhoist North Sea Port Port of Antwerp-Bruges TotalEnergies #BEmissionNOR #ccus #industry

Last Friday, Luane Lemos and Luewton Lemos F Agostinho visited the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in São Paulo to meet with the Innovatie Attaché Netwerk Brazilië / Netherlands Innovation Attaché Network Brazil team. Representing the Aliança Brasileira para Descarbonização dos Portos, Luane explained how this alliance of #ports and organizations aims to stimulate the green development of the Brazilian port sector through cooperation and sharing of experiences. The alliance kicked-off with the official signing during the Intermodal fair, where they started with 35 members. Since then, there are now around 50 members of the alliance in Brazil, and this number keeps growing. The topic of #decarbonization of ports was broadly discussed, specifically how the development of new #hydrogen #technologies can contribute to this. Within the alliance, there are several working groups, of which the #renewable #energy working group is led by the Port of Pecém. Of particular interest is our hydrogen #innovation mission, which aims to connect Dutch innovators with their Brazilian counterparts. Part of the program will be to connect with the ports to foster innovation of hydrogen technologies in the Northeast of Brazil. Thanks to Luewton Lemos F Agostinho for setting up this fruitful conversation. Let us continue to seek potential innovation collaborations between Dutch and Brazilian parties. Key takeaways from today's World Energy Outlook event in Brussels: 1. Energy transition, while 'not on track' for Net Zero scenario, is moving very fast nevertheless...in 2023, new capacity additions to power plants (500 GW) were 80% renewables (mostly Solar) 2. Electrification of vehicles accelerating strongly; while 3 years ago 1 out of every 25 vehicles sold globally was electric, that ratio is now 1 out of 5. In China...this ratio is one out of 2! 3. Grid capacity additions are not keeping up with power additions - a key prio area globally and for Europe in particular 4. In 2023, 2.7 Trillion USD was invested in Energy...out of which1.7 Tn in Renewables 5. 'Mistakes from the past' are hurting European industrials big time: - overreliance on Russian Gas - turning the back on Nuclear (without a good alternative) - Solar...once a European stronghold...was lost as an industry - Not to repeat these mistakes for hydrogen, Offshore wind! 6. Key problems of European industry: - huge Energy cost disadvantage vs US, Middle East, China - China dominates the clean tech race (batteries, metals processing, ...) 7. Critical raw materials act: 'a good step in the right direction...but only a 'framework' - in past 15 years - no European mine was opened... -but we need 10-15 mines, 20 processing plants and 15 recycling plants!! 8. Strong need for an 'Industrial deal' (and industrial policy) thanks to International Energy Agency (IEA) Agoria FOD Economie / SPF Economie / FPS Economy Stanley E. Porter Thomas Schlaak Vergauwe Jeroen Mikkel Boe Daniela Baratto Tom Van Boxstael Johannes Wiik Eline Brugman Stijn Vercammen Michaël Vandelaer Kristof Boodts Tarek Helmi Aled Walker Ian Sanders Andrew Swart Umicore Nyrstar Carmeuse
Delighted to address Belgian Minister Tinne Van der Straeten and colleagues at WEO event for the 19th year in a row and during Belgium's EU Council Presidency. Europe’s industrial strength is a top priority and must be anchored by an inclusive energy transition that works for everyone.

Our Chairman of the Board, Fernando C. Hernandez, had a dynamic low-carbon discussion with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Consul General, via Mette Tangen. This occurred after Innovation Norway and Brazil's Empresa de Pesquisa Energética signed an MoU to strengthen transatlantic cooperation, which Mette participated in. Full circle: the day before the MoU’s signing, Raquel Filgueiras at Innovation Norway and Fernando discussed in a panel session, how Brazil is providing manufacturing support for Equinor’s Northern Lights Project. • Link to said panel session: https://lnkd.in/g2m2aNv8 It is clear that #Brazil continues to go from strength to strength! #Global #LowCarbon #Collaboration
