90+% close rate on offers while at Twitch is still one of my biggest career accomplishments, and there was 1 question I asked that made it all possible: "If I get you x, will you accept? I will fight for you if I can give near-certain levels of confidence to my VP." Nearly every single time one of these negotiations happened, it was the rapport I built with my candidates that allowed me to maintain this level of transparency and directness with my business and candidates alike. The business knew they weren't churning for nothing. The candidate knew I was going to follow-through. Don't promise what you can't deliver on. It's that simple. I don’t know about you but… I’ve learned invaluable information via LinkedIn; I’ve also eye-rolled at a lot of it too! Oftentimes, i see we love getting pre-occupied by gaming the system by laying our posts out like this, and making “fourth-wall breaking” points to be reflective, as well as other stuff worthy of being on a LinkedIn bingo card. Of course, this is just my opinion—which is largely irrelevant—but knowing people in person versus how they communicate on LinkedIn is a stark contrast to say the least! Officially 2 years with Twitch💜🎉 Over the past 2 years, my role has changed 4 times, survived 3 rounds of layoffs, got divorced, and moved out to start a new life. It's definitely been a roller coaster ride for sure, but I learned so much, worked hard for what I truly want, and could not be more proud of myself!🫶🏻 Some of my greatest learnings: Having an opinion or your own vision is important. It doesn't necessarily have to be something that everyone would agree with or mind-blowing super smart ideas that impress the upper management. You do not need to be loud to be heard. When your team/your manager actively seeks ideas and opinions, it is the time to speak up to make an impact. If you do a lot of work but don’t talk about it or document it, no one will notice your accomplishments, or appreciate your hard work. Don't expect anyone to notice your work. Everyone’s busy with their own thing and doesn't pay that much attention to other people’s work but their own. It is important to be detailed on the accomplishment, tell them what you did, how you did it, what was the deliverable, and how it contributed to the success of the team/company. It builds a lot of self-esteem and also builds a lot of trust with your colleagues and your managers and trust is really important for teamwork. I truly appreciate all the experiences and learnings in the past two years and looking forward to the exciting third year!😎
