📰🚌🌿 New Blog | Ballard Power Systems recently marked the 30th anniversary of powering its first #hydrogen #FuelCell electric bus, unveiled in Vancouver, Canada in June 1993. Since then, the company has expanded its fuel cell technology footprint across heavy-duty mobility and reached increasingly diverse market verticals, including trucks, marine, rail, and stationary power generation. As Ballard enters its next commercialization phase, Tim Sasseen, Market Development Director, North America, looks at Ballard's growth trajectory in the region. He speaks about the fast-growing #ZeroEmission environment in the region, the benefits of hydrogen and fuel cell adoption, and what needs to change to achieve successful large-scale fleet implementation across numerous market verticals. This has been a great success story. Much of that first bus was funded by the South Coast Air Quality Management District , and became one of the first successes of their new Technoligy Advancement Office. The board chair at the time, my late friend and co-founder of the California Hydrogen Business Council, Hank Wedaa, was very proud of that effort, and was delighted when he was able to drive it in Ballard’s parking lot. Hank to Geoff Ballard: “Can I drive it?”. Geoff Ballard: “Well, I guess so. You paid for it!”
