What is user experience design (UX design)? UX is a process of combining task analysis, interface design, human behavior research, and marketing. Task analysis is the breakdown of how something gets done. For example: making a purchase. This starts by having an unmet problem, internal and external, that leads to Google. Say it’s shoes. At Google, the search looks something like “cotton-soled kung fu shoes” (a search I did last week cuz I need new shoes). The choosing a website Checking out options Selecting the style and size preferred Heading to the checkout Inputting a payment type And placing your order. And email should arrive with estimated delivery/tracking number. Then new shoes arrive. Most of this task is done on the user interface, which needs a good level of usability or the ease to which is takes to find a shoe and complete an order when landing on the website. Human behaviour is the area that leads to a better understanding of usability and interface design. Things need to be familiar enough to be seemless but also unique enough to be brand recognizable. Finding out the details of this comes from a lot of research and user testing- which is often forgone to replicating competition and known processes. Then comes the marketing: which is everything from ranking on Google to the words chosen each step of the way. You need to be able to find the website needed, understand how that company solves your problem, and how easy it is to purchase the solution.
