I'm excited to share some key insights from a recent keynote panel I moderated at the 12th annual Private Equity Forum hosted by Markets Group titled "Global Private Equity Investing." The discussion with industry experts was illuminating. Here are some of my takeaways: 📈 Market Recovery Signs: The PE landscape is showing signs of resilience with deal activity finding its footing and capital markets on the upswing. 🔍 Importance of Management: Opportunities in PE are often driven by effective management and the unique motivations of founders. 🌱 Long-Term Focus: Investors would do well to keep their eyes on long-term structural trends instead of getting distracted by short-term buzz. 💰 DPI is the New IRR: There's a noticeable pivot toward Distributions to Paid-In Capital (DPI) ratio as liquidity becomes a heightened priority for investors. Thank you to the panelists - Peter Cornelius, Sean Ward, Fanglu Wang, Vincenzo La Ruffa, and Arslan Mian - for such an engaging discussion.
Thank you to Markets Group for inviting Dechert to host a panel discussion at their 12th annual Private Equity Forum in New York City. Dechert Co-Chair Mark Thierfelder facilitated an insightful dialogue about the importance of management, a shift in focus towards DPI, structured deals and more with industry leaders Peter Cornelius, Sean Ward, Fanglu Wang, Vincenzo La Ruffa and Arslan Mian.

🌐 Mastering the Art of Private Equity: Insights from TPG's Jim Coulter 🌐 Steering a Private Equity firm through evolving landscapes presents a formidable challenge. In his conversation with Hugh MacArthur, Chairman of Global Private Equity Practice at Bain & Company, industry stalwart Jim Coulter, CEO of TPG Capital, shares insights into the longevity and growth of firms. He highlights the successful firms' ability to master "three-dimensional chess" across three critical arenas, demonstrating a multifaceted approach to sustaining and expanding their operations over time. Successful firms excel in three areas: 1st Board: Investment Acumen It's not just about making wise investments but also thriving through market cycles with resilience. As evidenced by the rise and fall of firms like Forstmann Little & Company, sustained success requires more than just good investment decisions. 2nd Board: Firm Building & Culture Creating a robust internal culture and implementing effective management practices are crucial for long-term growth and succession planning. Being a skilled investor isn't enough; one must also excel in managing and building a firm with a strong foundation. 3rd Board: Strategic Vision Adapting to the major trends and positioning the firm ahead of significant shifts, like the move towards technology or global expansion, is vital. Success stories show that firms that have managed to stay ahead of these waves have not only kept their focus sharp on investments but also fostered a culture and strategic foresight to navigate future challenges. At Artevis Consulting, we guide our clients in adopting these core strategies, offering support to Private Equity firms worldwide in fostering sustainable growth and success. #PrivateEquity #Drypowder #TPG #InvestmentStrategy #BusinessGrowth #CorporateCulture #StrategicVision

Last week, I had the privilege of attending LPGP Connect's CFO/COO Private Equity summit in San Francisco. What I loved most about the event was the focus on the critical--yet sometimes less glamorous--functions that either allow firms to flourish when done well or can create setbacks as they seek to scale when neglected. My biggest takeaway was how the roles of the CFO and COO are evolving. To create value, those holding CFO and COO roles within #PrivateEquity firms are actively transitioning their focus and contributions to strategic needs vs. financials and reporting. To help support this, they: 1. 🤝 Lean into Outsourcing: Creating trusted partnerships to allow these leaders to shift focus with confidence. Leading-edge firms are curating tech and partnership ecosystems comprised of specialized tools and partners to meet specific needs. Oh, and they are actively measuring use, satisfaction, and ROI across these investments while also regularly hunting for new use cases or needs that could be supported through technology or partners. 2. ⚖ Discern and Balance Stakeholder Needs: CFOs and COOs are charged with serving investors needs and the needs of portfolio companies as well as internal needs. A successful leader must balance these competing needs by understanding the importance and impact of each. 3. 🧠 Deeply Understand Portfolio Companies: Taking the time to learn about the firm's portfolio companies and each of their growth trajectories, runways, and efficiency drivers allows these leaders to implement KPIs, plan for pacing, and react when unforeseen changes occur. A big thank you to LPGP Connect for hosting the event, MUFG Capital Analytics for making it possible to attend, and the panelists for making it an informative and engaging day. And thank you to Jayme Haas for agreeing to join me in an evening stroll by the Painted Ladies to recreate the iconic opening scene from Full House--my inner Michelle Tanner felt right at home.

We are in Munich this week attending the lead autumn equity investment conferences organized by Berenberg Conference and Events and Baader Bank AG which both bring together management of German listed companies with hundreds of global equity portfolio managers and buy-side analysts. An excellent opportunity to discuss global investment opportunities, the current valuation of PATRIZIA on the stock market and most importantly, get direct feedback on PATRIZIA’s performance from existing and prospective shareholders. Pictured below our CFO Christoph Glaser presenting PATRIZIA‘s equity story in the public session, in addition to ten 1o1 meetings today - busy day and great to see strong investor interest. Key questions discussed include: Resilience of PATRIZIA‘s AUM, temporary low EBITDA levels due to the current subdued client / market investment activity, optionality driven by the strong PATRIZIA balance sheet / available liquidity and the low implied stock market valuation of PATRIZIA‘s operating business based on the current market cap.
