Our #BIPV partner Saint-Gobain Solutions has realized this beautiful project APPARTEMENTENGEBOUW IN CENTRUMPLAN BERKEL and applied with this at the BIPV contest in the Netherlands. In this apartment building, our #SKALA #solarPanels run from the facade to the pitched roof. In this way, BIPV is successfully integrated into the design. The #bronzeColored #solarModules are dynamic in color, so that the #colorExperience varies depending on the incidence of light and/or viewing angle. On this independent website, companies present their BIPV projects free of charge, in order to raise awareness of BIPV and inspire architects and developers to integrate solar panels into their building designs. All projects automatically compete for the coveted BIPV Award and for the BIPV Audience Award. Photo #SaintGobainSolutions #KeesStuip You like also the project Berkel? Please vote here:

Because we spend a lot of time in buildings, our relationship with nature is disrupted. This 'nature deficit disorder' is reinforced by the use of sustainable technology. According to Jaap Wiedenhoff (advisor at ABT bv/Quake, part of Oosterhoff ), we pay too high a price for this, he shares with Harm Tilman, editor and expert in the field of architecture and urban planning. Therefore: outside is the new inside. 🏡 🌳 To understand this, we may have to go back to the 1960s when the idea of a completely regulated environment gained popularity in architectural circles. Thanks to the invention of central heating and air conditioning, life in a fully conditioned interior, or bubble, became within reach. Living in such a bubble, bladder or atmosphere was seen as progress, but also as the future of architecture. Now 50 years later, Jaap rightly questions this. After all, the promise of comfort has been fulfilled, but the price we have to pay for this is high, perhaps too high. With all the measures taken since the 1990s, energy consumption should only be 20%. However, Jaap and his colleagues calculated that it has actually increased by 70%. ▶ Read more about the consequences of this and possible solutions. #quake #abt #oosterhoff #dutchdesignweek #ddw #naturedeficitdisorder #urbandevelopment #engineering #urbanengineering #buildinghealthy

Architecture studio EFFEKT unveils an innovative solution for sustainable mobility with the creation of Better Energy, a groundbreaking charging station for EVs in Sønderborg, #Denmark. Transforming the conventional petrol station into a serene park oasis, Better Energy Charge aims to revolutionize the charging experience. Designed by EFFEKT, led by creative director Sinus Lynge, the park offers visitors a chance to recharge mentally amidst gardens and seating areas while their vehicles charge. Positioning charging points amidst wildflower gardens, wooden benches, and a stunning cross-laminated timber canopy, EFFEKT redefines the concept of a charging station. Sinus Lynge emphasizes, "We wanted the pavilion's design to be organic and inviting." Not just a pretty face, Better Energy Charge incorporates dynamic pricing to encourage charging during peak renewable energy periods, contributing to a greener grid. Efforts to expand this innovative concept are already underway, with station number two anticipated to open by the end of 2024, signaling a promising future for eco-friendly transportation infrastructure across Northern Europe. #GreenEnergy #SustainableTransportation #Innovation #EFFEKTStudio #RenewableFuture

sustainability news // EUROPE The project solar.shell is our fourth ♻️ #sustainabilitystory from our strategic field of action “Developing sustainable & innovative products”. Imagine generating electricity exactly where it is needed! Sounds simple enough, doesn't it? But it is actually a real challenge in cities. Roof areas tend to be rather small compared to the vertical surfaces covered by façades and their value as potential outdoor space too important. And the amount of energy yielded by conventional building façades is simply not enough. But now a team of scientists from the Institute of Architecture at HTWK Leipzig have become involved – they want to turn this situation around and bring PV into dense, urban spaces using their solar façades. The team, led by Frank Hülsmeier, HTWK professor in Leipzig, has worked in cooperation with us to develop an energy-producing façade using our ALUCOBOND® tray panels. The geometry of the panels is three-dimensional and silicon half-cells adhere onto their upwardly inclined surfaces. 📍 The first company building featuring this façade has been standing for some time in Bad Rappenau. 400 PV modules are spread over two hundred ALUCOBOND® tray panels, all around the building, and they produce a total of 10,000 kWh per year. Enough, for instance, to supply two four-person households with electricity all year round. 💡Interested in finding out more? other forms of modularity, other forms of building innovation #creativethinking #creativedesign #creativemodularity #modularthinking #modulartechnologies
OMA Managing Partner - Architect David Gianotten will speak about the Innovation Partnership Schools at Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam on 19 September. You are most welcome to sign up for the free event. Amsterdam will halve the use of primary raw materials by 2030 and become fully circular by 2050 – according to the Circular Strategy 2020-2025 proposed by the municipality. To meet Amsterdam’s circularity ambitions and the increasing demand for schools, the city government has initiated the Innovation Partnership School Buildings program to build nine to thirty “high-quality, flexible and sustainable” schools in ten years. Circlewood – an alliance of architects, engineers, builders, and researchers, with OMA as the Creative Director and co-designer – has developed a modular wood system (the HoutKern Bouwmethode) to create a variety of schools, which can be easily transformed throughout the schools’ lifecycles to accommodate changing needs. https://lnkd.in/e8jnRpJC

sustainability news // EUROPE Introducing the contemporary urban power station! 🌞 ♻️ We're back for our fourth #sustainabilitystory from our strategic field of action “Developing sustainable & innovative products”. Imagine generating electricity exactly where it's needed in our cities! A team of scientists from the Institute of Architecture at HTWK Leipzig turned this vision into reality and swiftly developed a complete system solution with energy-producing façades using ALUCOBOND® tray panels with three-dimensional geometries and silicon half-cells adhered onto their upwardly inclined surfaces for optimized energy production. 📍 The first company building featuring this façade has been standing for some time in Bad Rappenau with 400 PV modules spread over 200 ALUCOBOND® tray panels, generating 10,000 kWh per year - enough to power two four-person households annually. This innovation involves tailoring each façade uniquely for maximum performance and therefore, ALUCOBOND® has been folded into lightweight but very strong factory-assembled tray panels, coupled with intelligent design help to minimise any self shading between the modules and maximise the energy yield. 🙌For their exemplary work in implementing innovative technologies that benefit our environment, the HTWK Leipzig research group was awarded 3rd place in the Reallabore Innovation Award 2022's special sustainability category. 💡 Curious to learn more about this incredible project? The brief called for a new, self-sufficient building and the refurbishment of existing structures on the site of a former industrial print works in Schlieren. The #JED (Join. Explore. Dare) Areal’s larger aim – to be a centre for innovation and knowledge transfer – also applied to its architecture. Together with Baumschlager Eberle Architekten, Rhomberg Bau Gruppe and FREO Group S.A. this was to set an example and reflect a visionary, future-oriented mindset. The Schlieren project represents the 2226 concept’s biggest test to date. Massive walls reduce heat exchange, ceiling heights up to 3.79 metres create a sense of well-being, while properly proportioned windows provide the necessary light. Ventilation panels are sensor-controlled. The result is an optimal working atmosphere with steady temperatures between 22 and 26 degrees Celsius – virtually eliminating the need for building services. The Dutch building and construction sector sees having clear, long-term policy direction towards 2030 and 2050 milestones as a critical enabler in the transition to a #lowcarbon, #circular future. My observation is that durable policies, and public procurement processes which give as much weight in the evaluation process to sustainability outcomes as financial metrics, are creating a suitable environment for private organizations to invest in solutions that fit with a low-carbon, circular future. Two standout policy examples from Amsterdam: - Green Deal Timber Construction requires that by 2025 at least 20% of new construction projects use timber or biobased materials. During our tour we saw two projects getting a head start on the timber construction future: HAUT (https://lnkd.in/gShijUQ), a high-rise residential tower designed by Team V Architectuur, and The Cube House a new office development by G&S Vastgoed. - By 2030 combustion engines will be prohibited, including for construction equipment, which is prompting construction companies and municipal planners to consider the expansion of “Construction Hubs” for equipment charging and streamlining construction logistics. Some Canadian municipalities have created similar long-term policy direction, such as Toronto’s Green Standard requiring near #netzero new construction by 2030, Montreal’s decision to prohibit natural gas in new buildings after 2025, and Vancouver’s carbon pollution limits starting in 2026 for large commercial buildings. To accelerate action will take leadership by other levels of government and coordination across jurisdictions to create the stable regulatory environment that supports investment in scaling-up low-carbon, circular solutions. - Matthew Hirsch

What an honour to be named as a project example in the Nationale Milieudatabase With building in wood we make a good step to use the available materials and recources in a better way, but to have a really good environmental score on materials (MPG) it is important to make broader sustainable design choices on the materials we use in our designs. And if this leads to a beautifull design? You can be the judge of that 😉 #pijnacker #biobased #urbanclimatearchitects #revolvedevelopment #jansendejongprojectontwikkeling #dgmr #vanzantenbouw https://lnkd.in/eQpNpXuW
