Biden bans Kaspersky antivirus software in US over security concerns. Today, the Biden administration has announced an upcoming ban of Kaspersky antivirus software and the pushing of software updates to US companies and consumers, giving customers until September 29, 2024, to find alternative security software. "Today, the Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced a Final Determination prohibiting Kaspersky Lab, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of a Russia-based anti-virus software and cybersecurity company, from directly or indirectly providing anti-virus software and cybersecurity products or services in the United States or to U.S. persons," reads a new announcement from the US BIS agency. "The prohibition also applies to Kaspersky Lab, Inc.’s affiliates, subsidiaries and parent companies (together with Kaspersky Lab, Inc., “Kaspersky”)." This ban not only involves the sale of Kaspersky products but also prevents the company from delivering antivirus and security updates to customers, making it critical for customers to provide alternative software by the end of September. "The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to a whole-of-government approach to protect our national security and out-innovate our adversaries," said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. https://lnkd.in/drgkzhAk

I forgot to update my credit card details so that my McAfee Anti-malware would renew automatically. 🤦🏾♀️ About 2 days passed by before I had time to update my credit card details and renew my anti-malware. 🤷🏾♀️ During those 2 days, we downloaded a few documents. Suddenly, the computer started showing these popups, "install anti-virus now!" 👀👀👀 May I say, these were not McAfee reminders and looked scary. 🥺 I immediately renewed the anti-virus and ran a scan on my computer. Turns out that one of the downloads was infected. 😱😱😱 I went into my McAfee account to see that the particular file had been placed into a sandbox location for quarantine. 🤯 I deleted the files as instructed by McAfee and I guess all is well now. To put it simply: just one hour without an anti-malware could cause great damage. I don't really care which anti-virus you choose to use, JUST use one - preferably one that you have to purchase. I don't trust anything free. 🤭 Many would argue that McAfee slows down the computer. I have used it for years now and it works fine. #antivirus #antimalware #computer #downloads #attachments #contaminatedfiles #cybersecurity #factotums #yaguardian #trustbadges #virustotal
